A cut-resistant combined yarn is described that includes a wire component. Kinking and knotting of the wire component resulting from stretching of the wire component during knitting is avoided by encasing the wire component within a cut resistant combined yarn that has a higher stretch resistance than the wire component. The combined yarn includes at least one strand of stainless steel, at first non-metallic strand of an inherently cut-resistant material, and a second non-metallic strand of a cut resistant material, a non-cut resistant material or fiberglass. The non-metallic strands are air interlaced with each other to form intermittent attachment areas along the lengths of the strands. At least one or the other of the strands is a multi-filament strand. During air interlacing operation, the two non-metallic strands encase the stainless steel strand in the non-metallic strands at least in some of the zones. A composite yarn may be formed by wrapping at least one cover strand wrapped about the combined yarn in a first direction. A second cover strand may be wrapped about the combined yarn in a second direction opposite the first direction.

Multi-component yarn and method of making the same

A knit article having an edge portion subject to raveling including a plurality of knitting courses in said edge portion. Each of the edge portion knitting courses is knitted with at least one strand of a heat fusible yarn, the heat fusible yarn including: i. at least one low melt fiber strand; and ii. at least one additional strand. The low melt fiber strand and the other strand are combined by air interlacing to create a single combined strand and to expose a sufficient amount of the one low melt fiber strand to facilitate a bond to an adjacent yarn strand.

A non-metallic multipart yarn component for use in combination with other yarn strands to make a cut resistant composite yarn. The multipart yarn component includes at least one non-metallic strand comprised of an inherently cut-resistant material and at least one non-metallic strand comprised of a non-cut resistant material. The two strands are air interlaced with each other so as to form attachment points intermittently along the lengths of the strands. At least one or the other of the strands is a multi filament strand. The invention may further include at least one cover strand wrapped about the air interlaced cut resistant and non-cut resistant strands in a first direction. A second cover strand may be provided wrapped about the first cover strand in a second direction opposite that of the first cover strand.

Multipart component for a cut resistant composite yarn and method of making

A non-metallic cut resistant combined yarn that can be combined with other yarns to form a composite yarn. The combined yarn includes at least one non-metallic strand of an inherently cut-resistant material and at least one non-metallic strand of a non-cut resistant material or fiberglass. The two strands are air interlaced with each other so as to form attachment points intermittently along the lengths of the strands. At least one or the other of the strands is a multi-filament strand. A composite yarn may be formed by wrapping at least one cover strand wrapped about the combined yarn in a first direction. A second cover strand may be wrapped about the combined yarn in a second direction opposite the first direction.

Multi-component yarn and making the same

A knit article having an edge portion subject to raveling with the article including plurality of knitting courses in said edge portion. Each of the edge portion knitting courses is knitted with a composite heat fusible yarn comprising a core including at least one low melt core strand and at least one cover strand wrapped around the core in a first direction. The cover strand is wrapped around the core at a rate suitable to partially cover the core while leaving exposed a sufficient amount of the core to facilitate a bond to an adjacent yarn strand in a knit structure upon application of heat to the core.
