The invention relates to the use of quinolines having general formula (I), wherein Rdenotes H; alkyl C-C; alkenyl or alkynyl C-C; &#x2014;CHO; heteroaryl; alkyl C-Cor alkenyl or alkynyl C-Ccomprising at least one substituent selected from among O, halogen, &#x2014;OH, &#x2014;CHO, &#x2014;COOH, aryloxycarbonyl, alkyloxycarbonyl C-C, alkenyloxycarbonyl C-C, nitrile, aryl, heteroaryl, arylsulphone, alkylsulphone C-C, thioalkyl or aminoalkyl C-C; alkenyl C-Cbearing at least one substituent selected from among NH, aleoxy C-C, phenoxy, cycloakyl C-Cor heteroaryloxy, alkenyl or alkynyl C-Ccomprising at least one trialkylsilyl C-C; R, in position 3, 6 or 8, denotes H; halogen; &#x2014;OH; &#x2014;CHO; &#x2014;COOH; alkyl or aleoxy C-C; &#x2014;NH2; alkenyl C-C; or alkynyl C-C; Rand Rdo not both denote H. The invention is used for the preparation of a medicine to treat protozoan and retrovirus co-infections
