The present invention relates to an image enhancement unit and a method of enhancing a first structure (S) of samples into a second structure (S) of samples, the first and the second structure both representing a first property of a scene and having a first resolution, based on a third structure (S) of samples representing a second property and having the first resolution, the first property and the second property respectively representing different properties of substantially the same scene. The method comprising generating a fourth structure (S) of samples representing the first property, the fourth structure (S) of samples having a second resolution lower than the first resolution, by down-scaling first samples of the first structure (S) of samples to form the samples of the fourth structure (S) of samples. The method further comprising up-scaling the fourth structure (S) of samples representing the first property, into the second structure (S) based on the third structure (S) of samples, the up-scaling comprising assigning weight factors to respective samples of the fourth structure (S) of samples based on samples of the third structure (S) of samples; and computing samples of the second structure (S) of samples using the samples of the fourth structure (S) of samples and their respectively assigned weight factors. The invention further relates to an image-processing unit comprising an image enhancement unit according to the invention as well as to a computer program product.

Image enhancement

A method of combined exchange of image data and related depth data is disclosed. The method comprises: converting an input image signal, representing the image data, comprising a predetermined number of input color components (R,G,B) into an output image signal comprising a luminance component and a chrominance component; combining the output signal with the related depth data into a combined signal, comprising the luminance component, the chrominance component and a depth component (D) which is based on the depth data; and transmission of the combined signal over a number of channels (-) which is equal to the predetermined number of input color components (R,G,B).

The present invention relates to a method, load () and display device () where an output parameter value (V) of a power supply () coupled to a separate load () is regulated. The load () demands at least one such parameter value (V) from the power supply (). The power supply () delivers the output parameter value (V) to the load (). The load () comprises a control signal setting unit (), which receives information relating to the output parameter value (V) and is connected to the power supply () for delivering a control signal (VC). The control signal (VC) includes information relating to the output parameter value (V) and is used by the power supply () for regulating the output parameter value (V). This makes the control signal setting unit () part of a feedback loop. The parameter value is preferably an output voltage, the load a plasma display panel and the display device a television set.

Method of regulating output parameters of a power supply

A video signal enhancement unit () and an image display apparatus containing the unit have a processing unit () for contrast modification of the video signal. The processing unit () receives input data from a contrast counter (), designed to store a contrast count. The contrast count is decreased by a pixel counter () each time the total number of pixels which have video signal levels that are higher than a predetermined video level, exceeds a predefined threshold. The contrast count is increased each time a trigger means () generates a pulse. A contrast comparator () can be coupled to the contrast counter () to limit the contrast count to a maximum contrast value.

A device for subfield coding a large-screen display generates a digital value for a picture element of the display, and determines a first number and a second number of subfields of a predetermined total number of subfields from the digital value, for which determined subfields the picture element emits radiation. In order to improve the dynamic range while maintaining the maximally obtainable brightness, the first number of subfields each have a different on-period during which the picture element emits radiation, and the second number of each have a same on-period during which the picture element emits radiation.

In a display driving method, noise is added (NG, AD) to a video signal before the video signal is subjected to a dithering operation (DC). The invention is preferably applied to render non-moving dither patterns invisible in a plasma display panel driving method in which the display signal is subjected to a (Floyd-Steinberg) dithering.
