The present invention relates to protein biocoacervates and biomaterials and the methods of making and using protein biocoacervates and biomaterials. More specifically the present invention relates to protein biocoacervates and biomaterials that may be utilized for various medical applications including, but not limited to, drug delivery devices for the controlled release of pharmacologically active agents, coated medical devices (e.g. stents, valves . . . ), vessels, tubular grafts, vascular grafts, wound healing devices including protein suture biomaterials and biomeshes, dental plugs and implants, skin/bone/tissue grafts, tissue fillers, protein biomaterial adhesion prevention barriers, cell scaffolding and other biocompatible biocoacervate or biomaterial devices.

Protein biomaterials and biocoacervates and methods of making and using thereof

A stent system comprising zero or more inner stents inserted into an outer stent. The inner stents and outer stent are separated and/or encapsulated by a protein-based material of a protein matrix and/or a set biocoacervate, each comprising one or more biocompatible proteins and one or more biocompatible solvents. The protein-based material may also include one or more carbohydrates and one or more pharmacologically active agents.

Encapsulated or coated stent systems

Biomaterials and the related methods of making and using biomaterials for wound treatment. The biomaterial defines an amorphous material that is crosslinked with one or more crosslinking agents an includes aggregated complexes having homogenously distributed biocoacervated components. The biocoacervated components include one or more soluble or solubilized primary proteins combined with one or more glycosaminoglycans and one or more biocompatible solvents. The biomaterial can be utilized by administering the biomaterial to a wound.

Wound treatments with crosslinked protein amorphous biomaterials

The containment and fixation system of the present invention generally includes a biomatrix sleeve, biomatrix particles or combinations thereof made of a biomatrix material. The biomatrix material is comprised of one or more biocompatible proteins and one or more biocompatible solvents. The biomatrix material utilized in the sleeve and/or particles may also include one or more pharmacologically active agents like therapeutic biochemicals such as a bone mending biochemical (e.g. hydroxyapatite) or an angiogenic growth factor (e.g. BMP).

Biomatrix structural containment and fixation systems and methods of use thereof

The present invention relates to mucoadhesive drug delivery devices and their methods of preparation and use. More specifically the present invention relates to mucoadhesive drug delivery devices comprising one or more biocompatible purified proteins combined with one or more biocompatible solvents and one or more mucoadhesive agents. The mucoadhesive drug delivery devices may also include one or more pharmacologically active agents. The drug delivery devices of the present invention adhere to mucosal tissue, thereby providing a vehicle for delivery of the pharmacologically active agent(s) through such tissue.

A breast implant includes an implant shell having an outer surface and defining a first fluid reservoir, and a porous membrane overlying the outer surface of the implant shell and defining a second fluid reservoir. The breast implant includes a filling tube having a first conduit in communication with the first reservoir and a second conduit in communication with the second reservoir. The breast implant includes an injection dome coupled with the filling tube and having a first fluid chamber in communication with the first conduit and a second fluid chamber in communication with the second conduit. The injection dome includes an upper end having an injection cover, a lower end including a support base, the first fluid chamber located adjacent the injection cover, the second fluid chamber located adjacent the support base, and a diaphragm dividing the first and second fluid chambers from one another.

Breast implants having drug-eluting reservoirs and methods therefor

A method for making an intravascular stent by applying to the body of a stent a solution which includes a solvent, a polymer dissolved in the solvent and a therapeutic substance dispersed in the solvent and then evaporating the solvent. The inclusion of a polymer in intimate contact with a drug on the stent allows the drug to be retained on the stent during expansion of the stent and also controls the administration of drug following implantation. The adhesion of the coating and the rate at which the drug is delivered can be controlled by the selection of an appropriate bioabsorbable or biostable polymer and the ratio of drug to polymer in the solution. By this method, drugs such as dexamethasone can be applied to a stent, retained on a stent during expansion of the stent and elute at a controlled rate.

Medical devices for delivering a therapeutic agent and method of preparation

A device useful for localized delivery of a therapeutic material is provided. The device includes a structure including a porous material; and a water-insoluble salt of a therapeutic material dispersed in the porous material. The water-insoluble salt is formed by contacting an aqueous solution of a therapeutic salt with a heavy metal water-soluble salt dispersed throughout a substantial portion of the porous material. The heavy metal water-soluble salt can be dispersed in the porous material so that the device can be sterilized and the therapeutic material can be loaded in the device in situ, for example, just prior to use. The therapeutic material is preferably a heparin or heparin derivative or analog which renders the material antithrombotic as an implantable or invasive device.
