Profiles or articles such as automotive seals (e.g., door seals and trunk seals) formed with foamed TPVs can comprise a thermoplastic polyolefin (e.g., polypropylene) and an ethylene-a-olefin-diene terpolymer, which imparts improved elastic properties. The sealing profile can comprise a foamed thermoplastic vulcanizate composition comprising a thermoplastic polyolefin and an ethylene-a-olefin-diene terpolymer elastomer, wherein the ethylene-a-olefin-diene terpolymer elastomer has a weight-average molecular weight Mw of from 200,000 g/mol to 3,000,000 g/mol, a Mw/Mn of 4.0 or lower, and a g'of 0.90 or greater, wherein the foamed thermoplastic vulcanizate composition has a specific gravity of 0.2 to 0.9.

Automotive weather seals formed with thermoplastic vulcanizate compositions

A thermoplastic vulcanizate composition comprises: (i) a dispersed phase of rubber that is at least partially cured; (ii) a continuous thermoplastic phase including at least one thermoplastic polymer; (iii) a first polysiloxane composition comprising a migratory siloxane polymer physically dispersed in a first thermoplastic material and (iv) a second polysiloxane composition comprising a non-migratory, siloxane polymer bonded to a second thermoplastic material.

Thermoplastic vulcanizates

In an embodiment, a thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) composition is provided. The TPV composition includes a thermoplastic polyolefin; and an ethylene based copolymer rubber, wherein the ethylene based copolymer rubber has: a Mw of from 500,000 g/mol to 3,000,000 g/mol, a Mw/Mn of 4.0 or lower, and a g′of 0.90 or greater. In another embodiment, a TPV composition includes a thermoplastic phase and an ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, wherein the thermoplastic vulcanizate composition has: a hardness of from 20 Shore A to 60 Shore D; and a stress relaxation slope of −1 to −5 (l/min) as measured by an Elastocon stress relaxation instrument.

Thermoplastic vulcanizate compositions

The present disclosure relates to TPV compositions suitable for foaming, as well as foamed TPV compositions, methods of making the foregoing, and applications of various foamed TPV compositions, including in glass run channels. The TPV compositions comprise an at least partially vulcanized rubber component dispersed within a thermoplastic component comprising a first thermoplastic resin. According to some aspects, the TPV composition may be combined with a high melt-strength thermoplastic resin, and in particular a high melt-strength polypropylene-based thermoplastic resin, to make a foamable TPV composition. The foamable TPV composition (with or without high melt-strength thermoplastic resin) is then coextruded or otherwise combined with foaming agent (preferably comprising thermo-expandable microspheres) to form the foamed composition. Foamed compositions according to various aspects are suitable for use in glass run channels for automobiles, and in particular in the base and/or sidewall portions of such glass run channels.

Low density foamed thermoplastic vulcanizate compositions

A thermoplastic vulcanizate composition comprises: (i) a dispersed phase of rubber that is at least partially cured; (ii) a continuous thermoplastic phase including at least one thermoplastic polymer; (iii) a first polysiloxane comprising a migratory liquid siloxane polymer; and (iv) a second polysiloxane comprising a non-migratory siloxane polymer bonded to a thermoplastic material.

In an embodiment, a thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) composition is provided. Described herein are thermoplastic elastomer compositions that comprise 30-60 wt % of a thermoplastic vulcanizate, 5 to 25 wt % of a thermoplastic resin, 5 to 25 wt % of a high density polyethylene, and 5 to 40 wt % of a ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene. The thermoplastic elastomer compositions may be particularly useful in forming laminates, such as slip coat laminates for glass run channels.

Thermoplastic elastomer compositions comprising ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene and methods for making the same

Provided herein are multimodal elastomer compositions comprising a first polymer fraction and a second polymer fraction, and methods for making such compositions. The elastomer compositions are preferably ethylene, &#x3b1;-olefin, copolymers or ethylene, &#x3b1;-olefin, polyene terpolymers. The elastomer compositions have high Mooney viscosity, thereby providing for improved elastomeric properties in compounds and other articles formed from the elastomer compositions. Surprisingly, the high Mooney viscosity compositions exhibit a much lower than expected viscosity when formulated into elastomer compounds. Thus, the processing detriments typically associated with high Mooney viscosity elastomers are minimized through the use of the elastomer compositions, and methods for making them, disclosed herein.

High molecular weight multimodal elastomer compositions with good processability

Provided are compositions comprising: (i) a dispersed phase of rubber that is at least partially cured; (ii) a continuous thermoplastic phase including at least one thermoplastic polymer; (iii) a first polysiloxane having a number average molecular weight greater than 100 kg/mole; and (iv) a second polysiloxane having a number average molecular weight less than 100 kg/mole, and methods for making such compositions. Also provided are laminates including such compositions, weatherseals made therefrom, and methods for making them.

Compositions and methods for making them

Provided are compositions comprising: (a) an ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer having a Mooney viscosity [ML(1+4) 125&#xb0; C.] of about 25 to about 300 and an ethylene content of at least about 60 wt % of the ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer; and (b) a polyolefin elastomer. The presence of the polyolefin elastomer improves rheological properties of the composition to an extent that does not significantly compromise other properties, such as tensile strength at break and compression set.

The structure has superior adhesive properties between structures. Also provided are articles made from the structures, particularly automotive weather seals, glass run channels, a noise attenuating device, automotive interior part, automotive belt, automotive hose, industrial belt, industrial hose, packaging material, construction material, decorative building material, and other consumer goods.
