A method and apparatus is provided for operating a mobile device having stored thereon a plurality of applications ('apps') that are each configured to capture an image. The method includes receiving first user input data requesting invocation of a given one of the applications. The given application is launched by the user. After launching the given application a user interface is presented which serves as an entry point through which all of the image capture applications stored on the mobile device are made available to the user.

Entry points to image-related applications in a mobile device

A method and apparatus is provided for operating a mobile device having stored thereon a plurality of applications ('apps') that are each configured to capture an image. The method includes receiving first user input data requesting invocation of a given one of the applications. The given application is launched by the user. After launching the given application a user interface is presented which serves as an entry point through which ail of the image capture applications stored on the mobile device are made available to the user.

Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for enabling immersive, interactive desktop image presentation are provided. Upon receiving a request for presentation of a background image of a search engine home page as a desktop image, the background image is transmitted for presentation on a desktop associated with a computing device. In embodiments, the background image, and likewise the desktop image, permits user interaction therewith. For instance, a user may zoom into the image, pan around the image or otherwise interact with enabled regions of the background and/or desktop image that offer additional content and/or navigate the user to another location where additional information may be found. In this way, the user is provided an immersive, interactive experience with the image whether at the search engine home page, the desktop, or both.

Enabling immersive, interactive desktop image presentation

Content may be collected, annotated, and propagated in a unified process. In one example, a mobile device such as a smart phone is used to collect information. The information may be text, video, audio, etc. The information may be sent to a reaction service, which may return an annotation of the information. The annotation may be attached to the information to create an annotated document. The annotated document may be communicated to other users. Additionally, the annotated document may be stored in a way that associated the annotated document with the user who created or captured the information. The ability to capture information, obtain annotations to the information, and propagate the annotated information may facilitate the creation of social media, such as social network postings or online photo albums.

Creating and propagating annotated information

Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for presenting interactive images associated with a search engine in association with a search engine results page (SERP) are provided. Upon receiving a search query at a search engine, it is determined that the search query content has a related interactive image associated with the search engine. An interactive image may be associated with the search engine, for instance, by having been previously presented as a background image for a search engine home page. A link to the interactive image may be presented as a search result on the SERP, the interactive image may be automatically presented as a background image of the SERP, or the interactive image may be determined to be related to an algorithmically-derived search result and a visual indicator thereof may be presented in association with the search result.

Presenting interactive images with search results

A digital imaging tool and a method for enhancing, or adjusting, a saturation contrast of a digital image is provided. The digital imaging tool may convert an original color space of a digital image to a second color space having a saturation channel. The digital imaging tool may define a function based, at least partially, on one or more user-provided parameters. Saturation values of pixels of the digital image, in the second color space, may be adjusted, or enhanced, by applying each of the saturation values to the defined function to produce corresponding enhanced saturation values. The second color space then may be converted back to the original color space and a saturation-enhanced version of the digital image may be presented and/or saved.

Saturation contrast image enhancement

An authoring system on a mobile device (or other type of device) may help a user to author a message based on context available on the device. Context data comes to exist on the device in some manner. For example, the context may contain the results of a search that a user has performed on the device. A message may be proposed based on the search query and/or the result&#x2014;e.g., if a user searches for 'Edinburgh,' the authoring system may propose the message 'Username likes Edinburgh' or &#x201c;Username is learning about Edinburgh.&#x201d; The authoring system may allow the user to change the message and/or to add additional content and/or links to the message. The user may then to send the message over some channel such as e-mail, a social network, a microblogging site, etc.

Assisted content authoring

A system is described for reducing artifacts produced by a rolling shutter capture technique in the presence of high-frequency motion, e.g., produced by large accelerations or jitter. The system operates by computing low-frequency information based on the motion of points from one frame to the next. The system then uses the low-frequency information to infer the high-frequency motion, e.g., by treating the low-frequency information as known integrals of the unknown underlying high-frequency information. The system then uses the high-frequency information to reduce the presence of artifacts. In effect, the correction aims to re-render video information as though all the pixels in each frame were imaged at the same time using a global shutter technique. An auto-calibration module can estimate the value of a capture parameter, which relates to a time interval between the capture of two subsequent rows of video information.

Reducing motion-related artifacts in rolling shutter video information

Methods and a processing device are provided for restoring pixels damaged by artifacts caused by dust, or other particles, entering a digital image capturing device. A user interface may be provided for a user to indicate an approximate location of an artifact appearing in a digital image. Dust attenuation may be estimated and an inverse transformation, based on the estimated dust attenuation, may be applied to damaged pixels in order to recover an estimate of the underlying digital image. One or many candidate source patch may be selected based on having smallest pixel distances, with respect to a target patch area. The damaged pixels included in the target patch area may be considered when calculating the pixel distance with respect to candidate source patches. RGB values of corresponding pixels of source patches may be used to restore the damaged pixels included in the target patch area.

Automatic dust removal in digital images

Two-dimensional (2D) video is converted into multi-view video. The 2D video is segmented to generate a temporally consistent segmented 2D video which is made up of a sequence of segmented frames. The multi-view video is generated by employing user-guided operations to generate depth assignments for the segments associated with user-assigned regions of the segmented frames, where a user-assigned region is formed from a group of contiguous segments selected by the user.

Converting 2D video into stereo video

Noise in an image is reduced in a manner that takes into account edge information in one or more channels of the image. A first image is received that is formatted according to a red-green-blue (RGB) color model. The first image is converted from the RGB color model to a second color model that includes at least a luminance channel, a first chrominance channel, and a second chrominance channel that are representative of the first image. The first and second chrominance channels are each denoised in a manner that accounts at least for edge information in the luminance channel, and may also include edge information from other channels in a manner that accounts for per-channel noise characteristics. The luminance channel and denoised first and second chrominance channels are converted to a second image formatted according to the RGB color model that is a noise-reduced version of the first image.

Multi-channel edge-aware chrominance noise reduction

A Bayesian two-color image demosaicer and method for processing a digital color image to demosaic the image in such a way as to reduce image artifacts. The method and system are an improvement on and an enhancement to previous demosaicing techniques. A preliminary demosaicing pass is performed on the image to assign each pixel a fully specified RGB triple color value. The final color value of pixel in the processed image is restricted to be a linear combination of two colors. Fully-specified RGB triple color values for each pixel in an image used to find two clusters represented favored two colors. The amount of contribution from these favored two colors on the final color value then is determined. The method and system also can process multiple images to improve the demosaicing results. When using multiple images, sampling can be performed at a finer resolution, known as super resolution.
