A system for monitoring marine vessels using a satellite network may include a plurality of satellite payloads to be carried by respective satellites. Each satellite payload may include a communications interface configured to communicate via the satellite network, a radio frequency (RF) transceiver configured to communicate with the plurality of marine vessels, and a controller cooperating with the communications interface and the RF transceiver. The controller may obtain automatic identification system (AIS) data including vessel position and call sign information via the transceiver, and communicate the AIS system data via the communications interface. The system may further include a terrestrial station configured to receive the AIS system data and determine therefrom a rendezvous between marine vessels which pass within a threshold distance for greater than a threshold time.

A method for processing imagery includes receiving data for a first image associated with a first spectral band and second images associated with second spectral bands. The method also includes obtaining first reflectance functions for pixels in the second images, generating a second reflectance function for pixels in the first image based on the first reflectance functions, and obtaining a third reflectance function for pixels in the first image based on the second reflectance function, the imagery data for the first image, and at least one facet orientation constraint. The method further includes modifying the first reflectance functions to generate fourth reflectance functions for pixels in the second images based on a difference between the second and the third reflectance functions, and computing imagery data defining third images associated with the second spectral bands and having the first spatial resolution based on the fourth reflectance functions.

System and method for fusion of image pairs utilizing atmospheric and solar illumination modeling

A system () for processing remotely acquired imagery is provided. The system () includes a storage element for receiving imagery data defining a first image of a panchromatic image type using a sensor characterized by a panchromatic spectral response curve and a second image of a multi-spectral image type using at least one other sensor characterized by a plurality of multi-spectral response curves associated with a plurality of optical bands. The first image has a first spatial resolution and a first spectral resolution. The second image has a second spatial resolution lower than the first spatial resolution and a second spectral resolution higher than that first spectral resolution. The system () also includes a processing element configured for deriving a radiation transfer model based on meta-data associated with one of the first and the second image and for determining a set of spectral weights for down-sampling the second image to the first spectral resolution based on the radiation transfer model and the panchromatic and the multi-spectral response curves.

Spectral calibration of image pairs using atmospheric characterization

A method for processing remotely acquired imagery includes obtaining imagery data defining a first image of a panchromatic image type, the first image having a first spatial resolution, and obtaining imagery data defining a second image of a multi-spectral image type, the second image having a second spatial resolution lower than the first spatial resolution. The method also includes obtaining a mapping function specifying a position of pixels in the first image with respect to pixels in the second image and adapting the mapping function to a high common spatial resolution higher than the second spatial resolution. The method further includes generating a third set of imagery data defining a third image of a panchromatic type based on the first set of imagery data and the adapted mapping function and having the high common spatial resolution and adjusting the mapping function based on a first difference between the first and the third images at the high common spatial resolution.

Optical flow registration of panchromatic/multi-spectral image pairs

A method for processing remotely acquired imagery data includes identifying a region of lowest intensity in each of a plurality of different images for a plurality of different spectral bands and estimating first values for upwelling path radiance for each of the different images according to an intensity in the region in each of the different images. The method further includes selecting a visibility value and calculating second values for the upwelling path radiance for each of the different images, each of the second values based on a radiation transfer model, the radiation model generated using the visibility value and the meta-data. The method can also include comparing the first and the second values for the upwelling path radiance for the different images, adjusting the visibility value based on the comparison, and repeating the calculating, the comparing, and the adjusting steps until a termination condition is met.

Automated atmospheric characterization of remotely sensed multi-spectral imagery

A geospatial modeling system may include a geospatial model data storage device and a processor cooperating therewith for determining a void within a geospatial model data set defining a void boundary region, and selecting at least one raw fill region from within the geospatial model data set for filling the void. The processor may also cooperate with the geospatial model data storage device for adjusting elevation values of the at least one raw fill region based upon elevation differences between corresponding portions of the void boundary region and the at least one raw fill region, and updating the geospatial model based upon the adjusted elevation values of the at least one raw fill region.

Geospatial modeling system using void filling and related methods

A geospatial modeling system may include at least one geospatial information database to store stereo-geographic image data and geographic feature data. A processor may cooperate with the geospatial information database for generating cost coefficients defining a three-dimensional (3D) cost cube using image matching operators based upon the stereo-geographic image data, adjusting the cost coefficients of the 3D cost cube based upon the geographic feature data to generate an adjusted 3D cost cube, and generating a geospatial model based upon solving the adjusted 3D cost cube, e.g. for a best cost surface. The system and method provide an integrated approach to creating a geospatial model using available data from multiple sources.
