A dielectric thin film material and method of preparation in which precursors are provided to form barium strontium titanate with lanthanum (La) added as a dopant. The precursors and La dopant are mixed with a solvent forming a solution which is deposited on a substrate to form a continuous film composition. In various embodiments, the dielectric thin film has a composition of (1-y)Ba Sr TiO &minus;(y)La, where y&equals;0 to 10-mol. The thin film material has dielectric and insulating properties suitable for tunable microwave applications.

A method of producing multilayered conformal coatings of tunable, low electronic loss ceramic composites is carried out by mixing two-phase BSTO/MgO into a base solution of typical lab grade acetone to form a mixed solution, inserting two platinum sheets separated into the mixed solution, applying a constant direct current (DC) bias across the two platinum sheets acting as electrodes, and stirring to reduce sedimentation of particles using a magnetic stirrer. Deposition is also performed on insulating substrates by initially coating them with conducting films of Au, performing BSTO deposition, and subsequently sintering the dielectric film so that the underlying metal film evaporates.

Multilayered conformal coatings of tunable, low electronic loss ceramic composites and method of production

A laminated ceramic ferroelectric material has adjacent layers of Barium ontium Titanate (BSTO)--oxide composite stacked in order of descending oxide content and sized in thickness to produce a generally equal capacitance across each layer, resulting in a material having a graded dielectric constant for use in phased array antenna, for example. The oxides are from the metallic oxide group consisting of alumina, zirconia and magnesia and the layers are produced by tape casting.

Electronically graded multilayer ferroelectric composites

A novel ceramic ferroelectric material having a low dielectric constant, loss and high tunability. The material is a composite comprising Barium Strontium Titanate (BSTO) and a ceramic material having a low dielectric constant. The preferred composite is represented by Ba.sub.1-x Sr.sub.x TiO.sub.3 --ZrO.sub.2, wherein x is greater than 0.00, but less than or equal to 0.70, and wherein the percent weight ratio between Ba.sub.1-x Sr.sub.x TiO.sub.3 and ZrO.sub.2 ranges from approximately 99%-40% and 1%-60%, respectively. The novel materials possess superior electronic properties; and they may be employed in various antenna systems.

Ceramic ferroelectric composite material - BSTO-ZrO.sub.2

A novel ceramic ferroelectric material having a low dielectric constant, extremely low loss and high tunability. The material is a composite comprising Barium Strontium Titanate (BSTO) and a ceramic material having a low dielectric constant. The preferred composite is represented by Ba.sub.1-x Sr.sub.x TiO.sub.3 --MgO, wherein x is greater than 0.00, but less than or equal to 0.75, and wherein the percent weight ratio between Ba.sub.1-x Sr.sub.x TiO.sub.3 and MgO ranges from approximately 99%-40% and 1%-60%, respectively. The novel materials possess superior electronic properties; and they may be employed in various antenna systems at both microwave and millimeter wave range frequencies.
