This disclosure details exemplary battery pack designs for use in electrified vehicles or other electrified components. An exemplary battery pack may include a heat exchanger plate assembly having a metallic plate and a polymeric plate that are joined together to establish a coolant circuit therebetween. The metallic plate or the polymeric plate may include a protrusion that extends through an opening of the other of the metallic plate or the polymeric plate. The protrusion may either be crimped or heat staked to a surface surrounding the opening in order to join together the metallic plate and the polymeric plate of the heat exchanger plate assembly.

Methods and systems are provided for a filler inlet of a fuel fill line of a motorized vehicle. In one example, a filler inlet includes a fuel/air separation chamber extending at an angle relative to an opening of the filler inlet, with the opening adapted to receive a fuel nozzle. Fuel may be guided from the fuel nozzle toward a curved wall of the fuel/air separation chamber by a flow guide, and the fuel may separate from entrained air within the fuel/air separation chamber.

This disclosure relates to a battery assembly, such as a battery assembly for an electrified vehicle, and a corresponding method. An example battery assembly includes a layer of electrolyte, a plurality of first electrodes arranged on a first side of the layer of electrolyte, a plurality of second electrodes arranged on a second side of the layer of electrolyte, and a plurality of battery cells. Further, each of the battery cells includes a portion of the layer of electrolyte, one of the first electrodes, and one of the second electrodes.

A thermal management system for a vehicle includes a vortex tube configured to generate hot and cold airstreams and a valve having hot and cold air inlets connected to the vortex tube to receive the hot and cold airstreams, respectively. The valve further has a vent and a valve outlet. A high-voltage electrical component is connected to the valve outlet by conduit to receive one of the hot and cold airstreams to thermally regulate the component.

A thermal management system for a vehicle includes a vortex tube having hot and cold air outlets. A heat exchanger is selectively in fluid communication with one of the hot and cold outlets. A coolant loop is in thermal communication with an electrical component and is arranged to pass coolant through the heat exchanger to transfer thermal energy between the coolant and an airstream of the one of the hot and cold outlets.

A degas bottle for inducing a cyclonic direction of flow to incoming coolant is disclosed. The degas bottle includes a body and an air separator having a cylindrical wall. An incoming coolant inlet is attached to the upper end of the air separator and is positioned at a tangent with respect to the cylindrical wall of the air separator, thus inducing cyclonic action as the coolant enters the air separator. The air separator may be of a cylindrical shape or of a conical shape. As air trapped coolant tangentially flows into the air separator, it will follow the cylindrical or conical shape of the air separator. The centrifugal force keeps the incoming coolant pressed against the inner wall of the air separator coolant on the wall while air separates from the coolant. The cyclonically flowing coolant circles downward to the reservoir while air remains on top of the coolant.

Embodiments may provide a fuel filter that may include a plurality of return fuel conduits axially traversing a filter medium. Each conduit may include an inlet in fluidic communication with the fuel recirculation passage. Each conduit may have a return fuel line exit port adjacent to a distal end of the filter medium.

A fuel-air separator includes a chamber with an interior side-wall surface and adjacent interior top and bottom surfaces. An inlet of the fuel-air separator opens to the interior side-wall surface to admit fuel and air and to cause the fuel and air to flow helically down and along the interior side-wall surface. A diptube opens to the bottom surface and extends along an axis of the interior side-wall surface to a fuel outlet, while the separated air is released to the atmosphere.

A system for an engine is provided herein. The system includes a primary passage, a suction passage, and an outer casing coupling the primary and suction passages such that a primary axis is orthogonal to a suction axis. The system further includes a jet pump assembly coupled to the primary passage forming an annular channel between the outer casing and the jet pump assembly. Further, the jet pump assembly includes a flow divider positioned opposite from the suction passage within the annular channel.

A device for measuring fluid flowing in a duct is disclosed. The device includes a housing having a first flow passage, a nozzle, a second flow passage, a first electrical element, and a second electrical element. The first flow passage receives a first portion of the fluid flowing in the duct. The nozzle is connected to the housing and in fluid communication with the first flow passage. The second flow passage is defined by at least a first and second surface disposed in the housing, wherein the first surface has a first surface portion inclined relative to a second surface portion. The first electrical element is mounted in the first flow passage proximate to the nozzle. The second electrical element is mounted in the second flow passage. The first and second electrical elements are connected to at least one circuit for detecting a characteristic of the flowing fluid.

A mass fluid flow sensor includes an internal bypass passage characterized by a first section that converges along a first axis to define a nozzle, and a radially-expanded generally-cylindrical second section immediately adjacent to and coaxial with the first section so as to define a radial step at the nozzle exit. The passage further includes a semispherical third section adjacent to the second section having the same nominal diameter, a converging fourth section whose nominal axis is disposed at a right angle to the nominal axis of the first and second sections, and a fifth section adjacent to the fourth section that includes a further ninety degree bend. The resulting U-shaped passage features reduced pressure losses and an improved velocity profile, whereby the performance of a sensing element disposed in the passage proximate to the radial step is improved.

An air flow sensing apparatus with a plastic housing having at least two leadframes that are embedded in the plastic housing and adapted for the attachment of a sensing element whose major axis is oriented across the leadframes in a first direction such that, during a thermal cycle, the difference in relative movement between the leadframes in the first direction is minimized while the leadframes move substantially synchronously in other two directions; the leadframes being bent in a pattern that is substantially parallel to each other, and arranged in close proximity with each other, with the dimensions spacing apart the leadframes in the pattern being minimized.

A device for detecting a mass of a flowing fluid is disclosed. The device includes a housing having a fluid sampling portion and a circuit cavity portion. The fluid sampling portion is positionable within a fluid carrying duct and includes a flow passage. A nozzle is in fluid communication with the flow passage, wherein the nozzle has a nozzle exit. An electrical element is disposed in the flow passage proximate to the nozzle exit. Further, a circuit module is in communication with the electrical element and disposed in the circuit cavity portion for detecting a change in an electrical property of the electrical element, wherein the detected change in the electrical property is used to determine the mass of the flowing fluid. Finally, a homogenous lead frame having a connector pin portion and an electrical attachment portion for providing an electrical path from the electrical element and circuit module to the connector pin portion is provided.

A mass fluid flow sensor for determining the amount of fluid inducted into an internal combustion engine, for example, is disclosed. The mass fluid flow sensor includes an external intake fluid temperature element which improves the accuracy of the mass fluid reading. An external cold wire element is further provided which improves response time. The mass fluid flow sensor has an improved aerodynamic design which provides a lower system pressure drop. A molded one-piece isolated jet nozzle having a hot element disposed therein is included in a fluid sampling portion. The fluid sampling portion has a tubular sampling channel, wherein the sampling channel has one bend having a constant bend radius. Consequently, an improved lower internal flow passage pressure drop is achieved. Additionally, an improved signal to noise ratio, as well as a larger dynamic range is an advantageous consequence of the present invention. A three surface contact seal is provided between the sensor housing and an intake duct to further enhance the vibrational characteristics of the sensor.

Mass fluid flow sensor having an improved housing design

A slosh suppressor prevents damage to electronic components and wire bonds of a circuit module contained in a circuit chamber formed by the housing of a sensor module. The circuit module is positioned within the circuit chamber and has a silicon gel layer positioned thereon for protecting the circuit module from the environment. A housing cover is structured to engage the sensor housing and close the circuit chamber. The housing cover has a projection extending into the circuit chamber and engaging the silicon gel layer to reduce vibration in the silicon gel layer and protect the circuit module.
