A computer-implemented method for determining a scheduled maintenance session for a proportional actuator includes transmitting a command signal to a controller of the proportional actuator and generating, using the controller, a drive signal for controlling the proportional actuator using the command signal. The position of a component actuator of the proportional actuator is changed, on the basis of the drive signal, and the position of the component actuator is measured, using a sensor, and a position feedback signal is generated on the basis of the measurement. A condition indicator is estimated, with a processor, using only one of the command signal, the drive signal, or the position feedback signal. A health indicator is estimated, with the processor, using the condition indicator, and a scheduled maintenance session of the proportional actuator is determined, with the processor, using the health indicator.

Health monitoring for proportional actuators

Embodiments of a combined overspeed and fuel stream selector system are provided. In an embodiment, the assembly includes a conduit network, a Discharge Select Valve (DSV), and a shutoff valve. The DSV is fluidly coupled to a primary fuel inlet, a secondary fuel inlet, and a primary fuel outlet included in the conduit network. The shutoff valve is fluidly coupled between the primary fuel inlet and the primary fuel outlet. In a standard operation mode, the shutoff valve is maintained in an open position, while fuel received at the primary fuel inlet is directed through the shutoff valve, through the DSV, and to the primary fuel inlet. Conversely, in a backup operation mode, the shutoff valve is closed to block fuel flow from the primary fuel inlet to the primary fuel outlet, while the DSV directs fuel flow received at the secondary fuel inlet to the primary fuel outlet.

Combined overspeed and fuel stream selector systems

In one embodiment, a fluid driven actuation system is provided having a turbine and an actuation member with cooperating surfaces. In one form the fluid is fuel. The turbine may move when fluid is flowed through the actuation member thereby causing the actuation member to move by action of the cooperating threaded surfaces. A movable nozzle may also be provided to direct fluid flowing through actuation member and may be used to cause the turbine to move. A spring may be provided to create a biasing force in the nozzle.

Actuator

In one embodiment a system is disclosed that includes an actuation device coupled with a turbomachinery mechanism. The actuation device can include multiple fluid pathways and a valve to alternatively place each of these pathways in fluid communication with a supply port while another of the pathways is in fluid communication with a return port to selectively move an actuation member along a range of travel. A brake valve may also be included to provide pressurized fluid to the actuation member when the actuation device is in an on condition and divert at least a portion of the pressurized fluid away from the actuation member through another pathway when the actuation device is in an off condition. A fluid-powered brake is coupled to this further pathway to selectively apply braking force to the actuation member in response to the diverted pressurized fluid.

A pressurizing and pressure regulating valve is provided. In one embodiment, the pressurizing and pressure regulating valve includes a sleeve, a first flow passage formed through the sleeve, a second flow passage formed through the sleeve, and a piston slidably disposed in the sleeve. The piston is configured to move between: (i) a pressurizing position wherein the piston impedes fluid flow through the first flow passage, and (ii) a pressure limiting position wherein the piston impedes fluid flow through the second flow passage. A sensing chamber is fluidly coupled to the first flow passage and configured to receive pressurized fluid therefrom. The piston is configured to move from the pressurizing position to the pressure limiting position when the pressure within the sensing chamber exceeds a predetermined minimum pressure.

A torque balance servo is provided for use in conjunction with a fluidly-controlled device. The torque balance servo includes a pivoting table assembly and an electromagnetic force bias mechanism. The pivoting table assembly includes: (i) a pivoting table configured to pivot about a rotational axis, and (ii) a roller assembly mechanically coupled to the fluidly-controlled device and contacting a surface of the pivoting table. The electromagnetic force bias mechanism is disposed proximate the pivoting table assembly and configured to exert a variable torsional force about the rotational axis of the pivoting table.

A flow prioritizing system includes a regulating valve and a flow prioritizing valve. The regulating valve receives a first portion of the fluid supplied from a fuel supply pump, and is responsive to a control pressure to selectively allow or prohibit flow to secondary loads. The flow prioritizing control valve is responsive to fluid pressure representative of delivery pump discharge pressure to control the control pressure to which the regulating valve is responsive.

A metering valve assembly is provided for metering a fluid. The metering valve assembly includes a position sensor, metering valve, and a thermal compensation mechanism. The metering valve includes a valve housing having a flow passage therethrough, and a valve element movably mounted within the valve housing. The thermal compensation mechanism is coupled between the position sensor and the valve element and configured to adjust the displacement of the position sensor relative to the valve element as a function of fluid temperature.
