An otoscope includes an instrument head, a tip element and an optical system. The instrument head has a distal insertion portion for insertion into an ear of a human or veterinary subject. The distal insertion portion has a distal opening. The tip element is releasably attached to the distal insertion portion. The tip element has a distal opening. The optical system is contained within the instrument head. The optical system includes a plurality of optical components. The optical system further comprises a viewing component for viewing of an image of a target of interest aligned along an optical axis disposed within said distal opening. The optical system is configured to provide a field of having a diameter equaling at least 7 mm at a distance of at least 15 mm from a distal opening of said attached tip element. The optical system is further configured to simultaneously provide a distance range of optimal focus having a range of at least 8 mm. The distance range of optimal focus includes a location at a working distance equal to about 30 mm.

Digital otoscope

A temperature probe includes a handle and a shaft extending from the handle. The shaft includes a distal end, a proximal end, and a tip at the distal end. The temperature probe also includes a capacitance sensor disposed on one of the handle and the shaft, the capacitance sensor configured to measure a change in capacitance when positioned proximate a conductor. The temperature probe further includes a temperature sensor disposed on the shaft, the temperature sensor configured to measure a body cavity temperature of a patient.

Systems and methods for determining patient temperature

A method for configuring a presentation of physiological data for a patient includes identifying one or more physiological sensor modules that are connected in a physiological parameter monitoring device. After the physiological sensor modules are identified, the physiological parameter monitoring device is configured so that display areas are allocated on a display screen of the physiological parameter monitoring device for displaying physiological data for the patient. A separate display area is allocated for each identified physiological module. After one or more physiological sensor modules are detected as being connected, the physiological parameter monitoring device is automatically configured to include one or more additional display areas on the display screen for displaying physiological data for the patient. A separate additional display area is allocated for each of the additional physiological sensor modules that is connected.

A blood pressure sleeve includes a first sheet having a top side and a bottom side and a second sheet having a top surface and a bottom surface. The second sheet is attached to the first sheet and defines an inflatable portion, the first and second sheets each having a fluid impermeable surface. The inflatable portion includes an opening sized for receiving a port that interconnects the exterior of the sleeve with the interior of the inflatable portion and in which the first sheet includes a slotted portion opposite the port and aligned therewith to receive the port when the sleeve is wrapped about the limb of a patient, and in which at least a portion of the wrapped cuff is treated to reduce frictional effects.

An otoscopic instrument includes an instrument head attached to a handle and a speculum tip actuator mechanism for receiving, retaining and selectively ejecting an otoscopic speculum tip element. The tip actuator mechanism includes an actuator knob rotatably attached to the instrument head in which the instrument head includes annular securement slots sized for receiving external engagement features of a speculum tip element which are rotatably fitted into the slot(s). The actuator knob further includes a pin for displacing a secured speculum tip element from the securing slot upon rotation in a predetermined direction in order to eject the tip element.

Otoscopic instrument having tip attachment and ejecting mechanism

A digital otoscope for capturing live and still digital images of body tissue and having associated optical characteristics that improve the quality of visual information gathered for medical inspection of both human and veterinary subjects. The digital otoscope includes a tip element having dimensions that are small enough to fit into a small body cavity, such as an ear canal. The tip element and the otoscope enclose an assembly of optical components yielding optical characteristics that provide a substantially wide field of view and a substantially wide range of optimal focus from which to form visual information within a small and confined body cavity.
