A cell culture apparatus consists of a vessel or array of vessels, each comprising a substantially flat bottom and substantially vertical sides, and composed of a substantially gas permeable material. The inner bottom surface of the vessel is commonly textured to provide the cells with adequate features for attachment and spreading. The vessel may include an integral annular flange which can be used to suspend the vessel from a suspensory element of a rack structure. To promote cell attachment and growth, the inner surfaces of the vessel bottom and sides may be coated with commonly available bio-active materials. Cells cultured in the system commonly grow in three dimensions for extended periods of time, and often produce significantly higher quantities of cellular products than cells grown in conventional labware.

Cell culture apparatus and associated methods

Disclosed are embodiments of airflow applicators used for delivering directional, heated air to, for example, the scalp and hair of humans and/or animals to eliminate ectoparasites, such as lice and lice eggs. In preferred embodiments, the applicators are configured to deliver heated airflow (from a separate device, or from another portion of a single device, that generates heated airflow) efficiently right to where ectoparasites and their eggs most frequently reside. Also disclosed are treatment methods, including preferred treatment patterns, for delivering heated airflows for use in eliminating ectoparasites and their eggs on an animal.

Interlocking barrier

A stackable interlocking barrier system includes a first barrier having a front wall and a back wall each extending between a top wall and a floor, at least a portion of the front wall being sloped relative to the back wall. A second barrier also has a front wall and a back wall each extending between a top wall and a floor, at least a portion of the front wall being sloped relative to the back wall. The second barrier is inverted relative to the first barrier with the front wall of the second barrier seated against the front wall of the first barrier. A first connector is removably mounted on the first barrier and the second barrier so as to secure the first barrier to the second barrier.

Improvements in a biosensor of the type having reservoirs or wells for analyzing a biological liquid are disclosed. A biosensor () includes a waveguide () placed between a plurality of members such as plates (), at least one of the members () being formed to define the walls () of the reservoirs where the liquid is biologically analyzed. The walls of the reservoirs are made of an inert, opaque material such as a metal. Although the biosensor may include a gasket (), the gasket is associated with the members and waveguide in such a way (e.g. by recessing the gasket into a channel formed into a metal plate) so that the gasket does not form any significant portion of the reservoir wall. Waveguides of varying composition (e.g. plastic, quartz or glass) may be associated with the members to form the biosensor. The metal plate of the biosensor has input and output ports for infusing, draining, or oscillating the liquid to be analyzed in the reaction reservoir. Also disclosed is a sled-shaped waveguide associated with a rear lens to couple light out of the waveguide to serve as a quality control measure thus insuring that the biosensor is properly placed and that the light is working.

The dermabrasion apparatus includes means for delivering and retrieving material to and from a selected site to be abraded, a delivery and retrieval hand piece, an abrasive handling device, and a waste retrieval holding device. Hand piece () is coupled to the abrasive handling device as well as the waste retrieval holding device, which is further coupled to the delivery and retrieval means.

Method and system for performing microabrasion and suction massage

A control barrier is provided having a barrier wall with one or two support assemblies attached thereto. The barrier wall has a front face with a display recess, wind ports, and tenons and mortises formed thereon. The barrier wall also has a set of projecting arms having either pins or ports to allow a series of control barriers to be connected together. The support assemblies are positionable between a support position and a standing position. Preferably, the support assemblies include a leg and a foot. The leg is extendable and/or rotatable to allow the foot to be positioned between a support position and a standing position.

An apparatus for monitoring fluid pressure includes a reusable base section, and a disposable dome section detachably connected to the base section. The disposable dome section defines a fluid pathway and includes a dome viewing segment in fluid communication with a flush segment and a stopcock segment. A pressure transducer sensor is disposed in the reusable base section and is adapted to produce electrical signals proportional to fluid pressures sensed in the fluid pathway. A usage indicator can be disposed in the base section to provide a visual indication of usage of the apparatus within a predetermined number of uses. A calibration port can be provided in the base section to allow for simple calibration by the user without violating the sterility of the apparatus. The ability to reuse the base section with the sensor component reduces the cost of the apparatus, while the disposability of the dome section with the fluid pathway ensures sterility for each use.

Reusable fluid pressure transducer monitoring apparatus

Improvements in a biosensor are disclosed. A biosensor includes a waveguide, at least a portion of which is substantially planar. One or more reservoirs may be formed adjacent to a chemistry-bearing surface of the waveguide. The biosensor may include a gasket to form a seal between the waveguide and side walls of the reservoir. A sample solution may be introduced into the reservoir or otherwise onto the surface of a waveguide through an input port. Waveguides of varying composition (e.g., plastic, quartz, glass, or other suitable waveguide materials) may be used in the biosensor. Also disclosed is a sled-shaped waveguide, which includes a planar portion and a lens at an end thereof and angled relative thereto for coupling light into the waveguide.

A method and system for performing abrasion on a surface, such as on the skin of a patient, is disclosed. The dermabrasion apparatus includes apparatus for delivering and retrieving material to and from a selected site to be abraded, a delivery and retrieval hand piece, an abrasive handling device, and a waste retrieval holding device. The hand piece is coupled to the abrasive handling device as well as the waste retrieval holding device, which is further coupled to the delivery and retrieval apparatus. The abrasive handling device further includes an abrasive supply device, a receiving channel, a feeding chamber, and a delivery channel. The abrasive supply device typically is a canister fitted with a funnel-shaped spout that is inverted into the receiving channel. The receiving channel feeds abrasive to the feeding chamber. The delivery and retrieval apparatus, typically a vacuum source that generates a pneumatic air supply within the abrasion apparatus, causes the abrasive within the feeding chamber to loft in an arc such that it reaches the delivery channel. The delivery channel then leads to the hand piece, which is utilized to apply the abrasive to the surface and then retrieve the waste debris during the procedure.

A reversibly attachable fastener has a generally figure-8 geometry when in the engaged state. The fastener is composed of two generally symmetric halves, each comprising arm portions, shoulder portions, and head portions, and the halves are connected by a spring loop. One half of the fastener contains a window feature that allows the opposing, singular half to extend through and be supported in a nested fashion. The half containing the window feature has crown protrusions on the head portions which are then spanned by a bridge structure. The opposing, singular half is provided with a crown protrusion which is notched, this crown protrusion catching on the bridge structure to maintain the fastener in the engaged state. The fastener can be used to easily and reversibly attach various objects, such as keys to keyrings or identification tags to luggage.
