Techniques for user identification by a biometric monitoring device are disclosed. In one aspect, a method of operating a biometric monitoring device may involve measuring a weight of a user in response to detecting that the user is standing on a platform, determining, based on sensor data generated by a sensor, a user parameter indicative of the user's identification, identifying one of a plurality of user profiles as corresponding to the user based on a comparison of the user parameter to parameter values and a comparison of the measured weight of the user to weight values, and updating the identified user profile based on at least one of the measured weight and the user parameter.

User identification by biometric monitoring device

An apparatus, system, and method for dual mode imaging under different lighting conditions. A sensor is configured to image a target. A dual-mode illumination source is configured to illuminate the target while the sensor images the target. The dual-mode illumination source is configured to illuminate the target using a first wavelength of light under a first lighting condition and to illuminate the target using a second wavelength of light under a second lighting condition. Techniques for automatic tracking of user data for exercises are disclosed. In one aspect, a method of operating a wearable device may involve determining that a user of the wearable device has started an exercise, activating the GPS receiver in response to determining that the user has started the exercise, and detecting a time at which the GPS receiver achieves an initial GPS fix of a location of the wearable device. The method may further involve logging, based on output of the one or more biometric sensors, a first set of user data during a first time interval between the start of the exercise and the detected time of the initial GPS fix, and back-filling an exercise route of the user during the first time interval based on the first set of user data.

Technology described in this document can be embodied in an optical sensor that includes a rectangular array of at least four photodetector cells of substantially equal size. An opaque mask is affixed over the rectangular array. An apparatus for measuring an inertial property on a set of one or more axes is disclosed. The apparatus includes a first inertial sensor arranged to measure the inertial property, having a first predetermined resolution and a first predetermined measurement range, and a second inertial sensor arranged to measure the inertial property, having a second predetermined resolution and a second predetermined measurement range. The second resolution is coarser than the first and the second measurement range is larger than the first. A processing system is adapted to receive measurement signals from the first and second inertial sensors and, when the output of the first inertial sensor is within the first predetermined measurement range, to update an error estimate for adjusting the output of the second inertial sensor, based on the measurement signals from the first and second inertial sensors.

Systems and methods for tracking the motion of a game controller and a player's body part are disclosed. The method includes receiving a video signal from a webcam, generating movement data corresponding to the motion of the game controller, tracking first predetermined degrees of freedom of motion of the body part, generating feature location data based on a location of at least one identifiable visual feature of the game controller, and estimating second predetermined degrees of freedom of a motion of the game controller.

Motion tracking system and method using camera and non-camera sensors

Among other things, first data is received from an inertial tracking device worn by a first person, the first data approximating locations along a first path that was traversed by the first person. Second data is received from an inertial tracking device worn by a second person, the second data approximating locations along a second path, similar to the first path, that is being traversed by the second person. A determination is made about how to guide the second person to reach the first person by using the first data and the second data to correlate locations along the first path and corresponding locations along the second path.

Navigation trajectory matching

The spatial location and azimuth of an object are computed from the locations, in a single camera image, of exactly two points on the object and information about an orientation of the object. One or more groups of four or more collinear markers are located in an image, and for each group, first and second outer markers are determined, the distances from each outer marker to the nearest marker in the same group are compared, and the outer marker with a closer nearest marker is identified as the first outer marker. Based on known distances between the outer markers and the marker nearest the first outer marker, an amount of perspective distortion of the group of markers in the image is estimated. Based on the perspective distortion, relative distances from each other point in the group to one of the outer markers are determined. Based on the relative distances, the group is identified.

Disclosed is a system for monitoring operation of a hand tool including an accelerometer coupled to the hand tool, a transmitter in data communication with the accelerometer, and a processor for receiving data from the transmitter and analyzing the data to detect an event associated with operation of the hand tool.

A navigation or motion tracking system includes components associated with particular sensors, which are decoupled from a tracking component that takes advantage of information in the sensor measurements. The architecture of this system enables development of sensor-specific components independently of the tracking component, and enables sensors and their associated components to be added or removed without having to re-implement the tracking component. In a software implementation of the system, sensor-specific software components may be dynamically incorporated into the system and the tracking component is then automatically configured to take advantage of measurements from the corresponding sensors without having to modify the tracking component.
