A patient support mechanism that supports a patient during scanning of the patient by a medical scanner. The support mechanism includes a shoulder support rotatably attached to a head support. The head support receives the patient's head and the shoulder support receives an upper portion of the patient's body wherein the shoulder support includes a downwardly extending attachment device. The support mechanism also includes an attachment mechanism having a post section that is attached to the medical scanner. Further, the attachment mechanism includes a bracket element for receiving the attachment device wherein the shoulder support is attached to the bracket element by positioning the shoulder support above the bracket element and moving the shoulder support downward to attach the attachment device to the bracket element while the patient is lying in bed.

A timer circuit for an X-ray imaging system having an X-ray generator used to generate images of a patient. The circuit includes a current sensor connected between a main power system and a circuit interrupter, wherein the circuit interrupter is also connected to the X-ray generator. The circuit also includes a timing device coupled between the current sensor and a control computer. The timing device is triggered when a current level detected by the current sensor exceeds an idle current level wherein X-rays are not generated by the X-ray generator. The timing device then measures a time period that the idle current level is exceeded. When the measured time period exceeds a predetermined time period by 10%, the circuit interrupter is activated to turn off current flow to the X-ray generator.

A translation drive system for an imaging system having an imaging gantry and a gantry base. The system includes at least one upper rail affixed to the imaging gantry and at least one lower rail affixed to the base, wherein the lower rail includes a stop. The system also includes front and lower carriages moveably attached to the lower rail wherein the upper rail is moveably attached to an upper carriage to enable movement of the imaging gantry relative to the base. Further, the system includes an extension spring attached between the lower carriage and the imaging gantry wherein when a lower carriage rear surface contacts the stop, the upper rail moves horizontally past a base rear surface into an extended position wherein the imaging gantry extends horizontally beyond the base rear surface. The system also includes a linear actuator located in the base that moves the imaging gantry.

Translation drive system for an imaging system

A cooling system used in an X-ray generator having a cathode and anode that includes a target having a focal spot, wherein heat is generated in the anode and focal spot during operation of the X-ray generator. The system includes a heat transfer element attached to the anode wherein the heat transfer element includes a plurality of fin elements that transfer heat from the anode to surrounding air to cool the anode. The system also includes a liquid channel formed in the anode, wherein the liquid channel includes a cooling liquid. The liquid channel is located adjacent the target wherein heat from the focal spot is transferred to the cooling liquid to cool the focal spot wherein the heat transfer element, liquid channel and anode are unistructurally formed. Further, the cooling system includes a circulation pump that moves the cooling liquid in the liquid channel.

A hydraulic stabilizer system for a portable medical imaging system. The system includes at least two hydraulic cylinders each having a shaft extending through a first wall of the respective cylinder, wherein each shaft is moveable relative to the respective cylinder. First and second ends of each shaft include a spring support element and a foot for contacting associated uneven floor portions. A retraction spring is located between the spring support element and an inner surface of the first wall of each cylinder. The system also includes a hydraulic circuit for supplying hydraulic fluid to the cylinders, wherein the cylinders are in fluid communication with each other. Hydraulic fluid is pumped into the cylinders to cause downward movement of the shafts until the feet contact the associated uneven floor portions such that the pressure exerted by the feet against the associated uneven floor portions is equalized.

A hybrid imaging system is disclosed including an arcuate arm defining a first and a second end the arcuate arm including a first detector assembly for 2D x-ray imaging of a patient and a second detector assembly for CT imaging of the patient, wherein the imaging system includes an internal drive mechanism for rotating the arcuate arm (e.g. translating the arcuate arm along an arcuate path) around the patient.

New and improved CT imaging systems are presented which improve the ability to deploy CT imaging in a mobile setting, such as in an ambulatory setting or as part of a mobile hospital unit. Improvements disclosed include implementation of an internal drive system for moving a scanner component relative to a fixed or static platform/base, improved modularity of components for quick maintenance/repair and the inclusion of an integrated patient alignment mechanism connected directly to the CT system.

CT imaging systems

An imaging system including a scanner and a transport mechanism mounted to the base of the scanner, wherein the transport mechanism includes a gross movement mechanism for transporting the scanner relatively quickly across room distances and a fine movement mechanism for moving the scanner precisely, relative to the object being scanned, during scanning.

In example embodiments, a CT imaging system is provided comprising opposing x-ray generation and x-ray detector assemblies and a motion mechanism configured for simultaneously rotationally orbiting the x-ray generation and x-ray detector assemblies around a patient's anatomy along a main axis of rotation of the imaging system while rotationally oscillating the x-ray generation and x-ray detector assemblies about a spinning oscillation axis which is perpendicular to both the main axis of rotation and to a transmission axis extending between the x ray generation and detector assemblies. Further improvements related to a patient support platform and a biopsy attachment are also described herein.

A computed tomography system has an x-ray source, x-ray detector, a gantry, and a controller configured to automatically initiate an air-calibration using the source and detector with air in an air space and to determine gain values for channels of the detector from the automatically initiated air-calibration. A computed tomography system having a patient bore, a controller, an x-ray source, and a detector is calibrated by receiving a setting for a medical scan to be performed by the computed tomography system for a particular patient, the setting being one of a plurality of optional values, scanning air and not the patient in the patient bore with the source and the detector using the setting, determining a gain value based on the scanning with the setting and not the other optional values, and scanning the patient with the source and the detector using the setting and the gain value.
