A power electronics module (PEM) is constructed to convert electricity from an input form to an output form. Electrical power conversion subcircuits having input and output ports are positioned proximal to a front mounting plate. Rigid conductor elements having respective preformed shapes are constructed to electrically interconnect the subcircuits at input and output ports thereof to form a power conversion circuit selected from among multiple power conversion circuits configurable solely by selection of the conductor elements. Other preformed conductor shapes are constructed to interconnect input and output ports of the selected power conversion circuit to ports disposed on a rear mounting plate. A controller is mechanically coupled to the front mounting plate and constructed to operate the semiconductor switches in a prescribed timing that converts the electricity of the input form to the electricity of the output form by the selected power conversion circuit.

A cooling system, for circulating air through an electrical system for a work machine, includes an electrical cabinet, a chassis of the wok machine, and a blower fluidly connected to the electrical cabinet and the chassis. The electrical cabinet defines an interior volume for accommodating a plurality of electrical components of the electrical system. The chassis defines a closed-loop passageway configured to receive air from the interior volume of the electrical cabinet. The blower circulates the air through the interior volume of the electrical cabinet and the closed-loop passageway of the chassis.

An example converter for a switched reluctance (SR) generator includes one or more gate driver circuits that are not only used to synchronously control switches, such as insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) of the converter, but also used to provide priming function during start-up of the generator. Since, an SR generator does not have to ability to self provide magnetic flux, priming current is provided to coils of the SR generator to initiate a magnetic flux. By using the gate drive circuit to provide the priming current, an additional priming circuit is not required. As a result, the converter design is more streamlined, with reduced complexity, cost, and size. When a bus voltage of the converter is below a threshold level, the one or more gate drive circuits can provide the priming current on the bus to initiate the SR generator.

A power inverter has an inverter unit with a housing defining a main compartment and a first lateral compartment adjacent the main compartment. The main compartment contains an inverter power module configured to convert direct current (DC) power into alternating current (AC) power output, an inverter driver module configured to provide driving signals to drive the inverter power module, an inverter control module configured to provide control signals to the inverter driver module to control the AC power output, and a capacitor for coupling to the DC power. The capacitor is arranged on or over at least one of the inverter power module, the inverter driver module, or the inverter control module. Additionally, the power inverter has a base on which the housing sits, the base comprising a heat sink configured to draw heat away from one or more of the inverter power module, the inverter driver module, or the inverter control module.

A semiconductor module is disclosed. The semiconductor module may include a housing having a sidewall portion, a housing support plate coupled to a bottom surface of the sidewall portion such that the housing support plate and the sidewall portion define an interior space of the housing of the semiconductor module, and a semiconductor device disposed within the interior space and fixedly coupled to the housing. The semiconductor module may further include a cover member fixedly attached to a top surface of the sidewall portion such that the cover member, the housing and the housing support plate form a protective enclosure for the semiconductor device.

A hybrid energy storage system (HESS) and method of controlling a HESS is provided. The HESS comprises a common direct current (DC) bus having a DC bus voltage, an energy storage device electrically coupled to the common DC bus, a power device electrically coupled to the common DC bus, and a controller in operable communication with the energy storage device, the power device and the common DC bus. The controller is configured to, when the energy storage device is charging, increase a power device charging current if an energy storage device charging current is greater than a charging limit for the energy storage device, and when the energy storage device is discharging, increase a power device discharging current if an energy storage device discharging current is greater than a discharging limit for the energy storage device. The HESS can be part of a power system.

The motor driver has a first power bus, a first switching device coupled between the first power bus and a first terminal of the motor, a second power bus, a second switching device coupled between the second power bus and a second terminal of the motor, and an integrated braking chopper coupled between the first and second power buses. The integrated braking chopper is configured to dissipate an extra power generated by the motor.

A method of determining an optimal operating speed of a variable speed genset is provided. The method may include determining whether an actual operating speed of the genset approximates a desired operating speed, the desired operating speed being predetermined based on a measured load value associated with the genset, the desired operating speed being associated with an applied offset value that is adjustable between a minimum offset value and a maximum offset value; incrementing the applied offset value of the desired operating speed to decrease the actual operating speed if the actual operating speed approximates the desired operating speed, and the applied offset value is less than the maximum offset value; and determining the desired operating speed as the optimal operating speed if the actual operating speed approximates the desired operating speed, and the applied offset value is equal to the maximum offset value.

A power system includes a prime mover drivingly connected to an electric motor/generator. The power system may also include a first electrical energy storage device and a second electrical energy storage device. The power system may further include power-system controls configured to selectively start the prime mover by selectively charging the first electrical energy storage device with electricity from the second electrical energy storage device and transmitting electricity from the first electrical energy storage device to the electric motor/generator to operate the electric motor/generator as an electric motor to start the prime mover.

System and methods for starting a prime mover of a power system

A machine includes a power system having a prime mover drivingly connected to an electric generator, a power line operably connected to the electric generator, and a first electrical energy storage device operable to exchange electricity with the power line. The power system may also include a second electrical energy storage device and power-system controls. The power-system controls may include a power regulator and at least one information processor configured to receive information related to at least one operating parameter of the power system and control the power regulator based on the received information, including selectively controlling the power regulator to receive electricity from the second electrical energy storage device and supply the electricity to the first electrical energy storage device.

In one aspect, the present disclosure is directed to a method for controlling operation of an electric water pump configured to circulate a cooling fluid. The method may include detecting a startup of an electric power source associated with the electric water pump. In addition, the method may include monitoring a voltage available to the electric water pump in response to the detected startup of the power source. The method may also include providing an activation signal to the electric water pump if the monitored voltage is equal to or greater than a first threshold voltage.

Systems and methods are disclosed for detecting high-voltage levels associated with a work machine. In one embodiment a high-voltage detection system is disclosed and includes a threshold detector configured to determine a voltage level associated with an element, determine whether the voltage level associated with the element is greater than a predetermined threshold value, and provide a threshold indicator if the voltage level associated with the element is greater than the predetermined threshold value. The system also includes a controller coupled to the threshold detector via an isolation device. The controller is configured to detect the threshold indicator and provide one or more warning signals in response to the threshold indicator.
