A method is provided that includes: receiving a plurality of estimated position points, each estimated position point including a timestamp, where each estimated position point is an estimate of a position of a vehicle at a time respective timestamp; receiving on or more path events, where each of the one or more path events includes a timestamp and data from at least one sensor of the vehicle; generating a path from the plurality of estimated position points, where the estimated position points are arranged in order of ascending time represented by the respective timestamp; and interpolating between two of the estimated position points to determine a location corresponding to one of the one or more path events, where the timestamp of the one of the one or more path event corresponds to a time that is between the times represented by the timestamps of the two estimated position points.

Method, apparatus, and computer program product for processing sensor data

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to process probe data in accordance with an efficient map matching technique. Methods may include obtaining a road link within a geographic area from a database of a plurality of road links; calculating a plurality of areas of interest and a centroid for each; receiving a probe data point from a probe apparatus including one or more sensors and being onboard a vehicle, where the probe data point includes location information associated with the probe apparatus; determining that the probe data point location information corresponds to the geographic area; determining that the probe data point location corresponds to an area of interest disposed along the road link within the geographic area; and map matching the probe data point to a centroid of the area of interest determined to correspond to the probe data point location.

Map matching method and apparatus

Vehicle position data from vehicles on a roadway are received. Affected nodes of the roadway are identified based on the vehicle position data. The roadway graph, representative of the roadway, is updated based on the affected nodes of the roadway. Routes of each vehicle are optimized based on updates to the roadway graph. An indication of change in the route of each vehicle may be provided for display.

Node-centric navigation optimization

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to process probe data in accordance with a map-centric map matching technique. Methods may include obtaining a road link from a database of a plurality of road links; calculating a boundary separation distance for spacing vertices along a length of the road link; determining a sequence of vertices along the road link according to the boundary separation distance; generating, for each vertex, a spatial boundary where an overlap between spatial boundaries of adjacent vertices extends a first distance from the road link, where the first distance is a minimum distance from the road link; and providing for storage of a spatial boundary structure for the road link including the plurality of spatial boundaries associated with the road link.

Map-centric map matching method and apparatus

An approach is provided for determining safety levels for one or more locations based, at least in part, on signage information. The approach involves determining signage information associated with at least one location. The approach also involves causing, at least in part, a creation of at least one predictor model based, at least in part, on the signage information and one or more attributes associated with the at least one location. The approach also involves causing, at least in part, a classification of the at least one location, one or more other locations, or a combination thereof according to one or more safety levels using, at least in part, the at least one predictor model.

Systems, methods, and apparatuses are provided for determining an optimal warning distance for a vehicle. For example, the geographic location of the vehicle is received along with a reaction profile of the operator of the vehicle. Based on the geographic location, a roadway condition is determined. An optimal warning distance is then determined based on a braking distance of the vehicle and the reaction profile of the operator of the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle, or a navigation system of the vehicle itself, is alerted to the roadway condition when the vehicle is located at the optimal warning distance.

A method, apparatus and computer program products are provided for grouping a plurality of vehicles together into a platoon and using navigation and other available data to optimize the efficiencies of operating the vehicles together as a platoon. Methods may include receiving a first trip request including a first vehicle identification, trip destination, and associated preferences; receiving a second trip request including a second vehicle identification, trip destination, and associated preferences; and generating a platooning plan including assignment of platoon leader to the first vehicle identification and a joining location where a vehicle of the first vehicle identification is to form a platoon with a vehicle of the second identification. Methods may include joining the first vehicle and the second vehicle in a secure vehicle-to-vehicle communication session.

Method, apparatus and computer program product for grouping vehicles into a platoon

System and methods are provided for predicting occupancy of a parking area. A request is received for data relating to occupancy of the parking area. One or more entities within a first predefined distance of the first parking area are identified. Activity classification codes for each of the one or more entities are identified. A predicted occupancy for the parking area is calculated as a function of the activity classification codes. The predicted occupancy for the parking area is transmitted.

Predicting parking vacancies based on activity codes

A method is provided for organized intelligent merge notifications. The method includes identifying a merge aperture using a processor. Merging vehicle parameters for a merging vehicle approaching the merge aperture are received over a network. Simulations of traffic moving through the merge aperture is performed by the processor based on the received merging vehicle parameters. The simulations are optimized by the processor to determine a merge distance for the merging vehicle. A merge notification is generated by the processor for the merging vehicle based on the merge distance.

Organized intelligent merging

A mobile device initiates communication with a server through a location based service and sends a user generated submission and a geolocation to the server. The server identifies an incomplete entry in a geographic database based on the geolocation and generates a probe question for the incomplete entry. The probe question requests that a user visually inspect or photograph an object or area near the geolocation. The server analyzes the information provided by the user in order to update the geographic database.
