Systems, reactors, and processes for regenerating ionic liquid using catalyst. A plurality of tubular reactors are provided having a first end and a second end and catalyst particles disposed in the tubular reactor between the first end and the second end. A line supplies separated ionic liquid catalyst to the first end of the tubular reactor. Hydrogen is also supplied. Regenerated ionic liquid catalyst is recovered from the second end of the tubular reactor. The inner surface of the tubular reactor is preferably non-corrosive or non-reactive. A fluoropolymer lining may be used. The tubular reactors are modular, and may be changed out with the catalyst inside when the catalyst are to be replaced.

System for ionic liquid catalyst regeneration

Reactor systems for use with ionic liquid catalyst. The reactor systems include one or more stages, which include a reactor and a heat exchanger, and a separation zone. The reactor and the heat exchanger may have a vertical orientation. Additionally, a separation vessel may also include a vertical orientation. The heat exchanger may allow for linear flow of process fluid to control residence time.

Reactor system for use with an ionic liquid catalyst

A process for treating an ionic liquid containing waste stream is described. If there is a liquid waste stream, the liquid waste stream is introduced into a liquid treatment zone. The ionic liquid in the liquid waste stream is neutralized. The concentration of the ionic liquid in the liquid waste stream is determined, and the allowed concentration of the ionic liquid in the liquid waste stream is determined. The concentration of the ionic liquid in the neutralized liquid waste stream is reduced to the allowed concentration, and the liquid waste stream having the allowed concentration is released. If there is a vapor waste stream, the vapor waste stream is introduced into a vapor treatment zone. The vapor waste stream is treated to form a treated vapor waste stream, and the treated vapor waste stream is released to a plant vapor treatment zone.

Ionic liquid waste handling system

A separation vessel for separating an effluent stream that comprises a mixture of hydrocarbons and ionic liquid. The separation vessels may be vertically orientated. Ionic liquid is utilized to remove entrained ionic liquid droplets form rising hydrocarbons within the separation zone. The ionic liquid may be provided with a stream of the ionic liquid from the separation vessel. The ionic liquid may be provided as a layer or travel counter-current to the hydrocarbons rising in the separation vessel.

A method of alkylating a hydrocarbon stream including: providing a feed stream that includes hydrocarbons and ionic liquid catalyst; passing the feed stream through a low efficiency mixer to create a mixed stream, whereby the low efficiency mixer creates droplets within the feed stream that are primarily within a predetermined size range; passing the mixed stream and an olefin stream into a reactor; performing an alkylation reaction within the reactor, thereby forming a reacted stream; and separating the reacted stream into a settled ionic liquid catalyst stream and a hydrocarbon stream through the use of at least one hydrocyclone.

An alkylation process and apparatus are described. The alkylation process includes pre-mixing a paraffin stream with an ionic liquid catalyst stream from a settler. The premixed paraffin and ionic liquid catalyst stream is mixed in a low-efficiency pump to form a paraffin and ionic liquid catalyst mixture. An olefin feed stream is introduced into a riser reactor. The paraffin and ionic liquid catalyst mixture is introduced into the riser reactor to form a reaction mixture comprising alkylate and the ionic liquid catalyst. The reaction mixture is separated in a settler into an ionic liquid catalyst stream and a hydrocarbon stream.

Modified HF alkylation reaction zone for ionic liquid alkylation

The present invention involves processes and equipment for handling chloride in an ionic liquid alkylation system. The processes involve not only breaking down the organic chloride to active HCl for ionic liquid activation, but also recovering HCl in the effluent downstream to maintain the HCl requirements while also reducing HCl emissions. This equipment may be used in conjunction with an isomerization reaction zone which is integrated into the ionic liquid alkylation process to further isomerize n-paraffins to isoparaffins for recycle to the alkylation reaction zone.

Chloride management in ionic liquid alkylation processes

Methods, apparatuses, and kits for collecting chemical samples are provided. In one embodiment, a method for collecting a sample of a chemical from a vessel includes connecting a sampling chamber and a removal chamber in fluid communication with the vessel and flowing a liquid phase of the chemical from the vessel through the sampling chamber and the removal chamber. The method isolates a first volume of the liquid phase in the sampling chamber and removes a second volume of the liquid phase from the removal chamber. Further, the method includes establishing fluid communication between the sampling chamber and the removal chamber and filling the removal chamber with a portion of the first volume to form a vapor phase of the chemical in the sampling chamber. Also, the method includes isolating the sample including the vapor phase and a remaining portion of the liquid phase in the sampling chamber.
