Multiple feed, front-shielded, coplanar waveguide, direct-fed, cavity-backed slot antennas are described. Various implementations form an antenna unit capable of millimeter waveform and/or microwave waveform transmissions. An antenna comprises a conductive plate that includes an aperture. The aperture has a shape that extends along an axis that bisects the aperture into first and second bisected portions, the first bisected portion having a first geometry type, and the second portion having a second geometry type that is a bilateral symmetry shape type of the first geometry type. In implementations, the aperture is configured to radiate waveforms within a frequency range from about between 600 Megahertz (MHz) to 72 Gigahertz (GHz) by applying multiple signal feeds to the conductive plate.

Front-shielded, coplanar waveguide, direct-fed, cavity-backed slot antennas are described. Various implementations form an antenna unit capable of millimeter waveform and/or microwave waveform transmissions. A bottom shielding structure of the antenna unit defines a cavity, where various implementations include one or more dampening structures within the cavity. Some implementations includes a slot antenna within the cavity defined by the bottom shielding structure, such as a coplanar waveguide (CPW) direct-fed slot antenna, to form a cavity-backed slot antenna. Some implementations connect a top shielding structure to the bottom shielding structure to encase the slot antenna. In one or more implementations, the top shielding structure includes aperture windows to allow waveforms within a frequency range from about between 600 Megahertz (MHz) to 72 Gigahertz (GHz). and radiated by the slot antenna to radiate outward from the antenna unit.

Techniques for authentication for key access are described. In the described techniques, interaction between a client device and an assistant device is utilized to authenticate the client device for access to protected functionality and/or content. For instance, proximity between the client device and the assistant device, and physical authentication of a user with the assistant device, are leveraged for authenticating the client device for access to the protected functionality and/or content.

Techniques for authentication for device access are described. In the described techniques, interaction between a client device and an assistant device is utilized to authenticate the client device for access to protected functionality and/or content. Techniques described herein provide slot antenna arrays for a millimeter-wave communication system. One or more implementations form a slot antenna array by creating multiple slot antenna out of a metal band that surrounds an outer edge of a housing structure. Various implementations form the slot antenna array to support millimeter waveforms associated with the millimeter-wave communication system. To form the antenna array, one or more implementations capacitively couple a respective signal feed to each respective slot antenna using a stripline connected to an inner edge of the metal band, where the stripline provides isolation between the antenna array and hardware components included in the housing structure. In response to coupling the signal feeds to the slot antenna, various implementations transmit a beam-formed wireless signal associated with the millimeter-wave communication system to enable successful data exchanges.

Foldable wireless electronic devices that communicate wirelessly are provided that can attenuate the cavity modes created when the devices are folded. The electronic devices may utilize prescribed housing dimensions, ohmic contacts, and capacitive coupling to attenuate the cavity modes. There may be minimal impact on the industrial design of the devices. The radiation efficiency and VSWR of the antennas of the electronic devices may not be degraded. Also, the frequency of the cavity modes may be controlled such that the cavity modes are resonated out of frequencies of interest, and the severity and occurrence of RF energy absorption may be attenuated or eliminated. Users of the foldable wireless electronic devices may have increased satisfaction as the devices may perform better while still having desirable aesthetics and appearance.

Systems and methods modify the behavior and operation of an electronic device and also enable a server to intercept and process incoming communications for the electronic device, based on whether the electronic device is communicating with a network via a high data rate mode or a low data rate mode. According to certain aspects, whether the electronic device is communicating with the network via a high data rate mode or a low data rate mode may be determined by calculating a delay index based on the amount of repeated data received by the electronic device. The electronic device may be able to maintain a more consistent connection with the network and improve the experience and satisfaction of users.

Embodiments include an electronic device comprising a display unit operable to electronically display information; an antenna formed from at least one transparent conductor extending across a top surface of the display unit; and wireless communication circuitry operatively coupled to the antenna and positioned below the display unit. According to certain aspects, the at least one transparent conductor, the display unit, and the wireless communication circuitry may be stacked in parallel to each other and a housing for encasing the wireless communication circuitry and at least a portion of the display unit. One embodiment includes an electronic watch comprising a watch face operable to electronically display information; an antenna formed from at least one transparent conductor extending across a top surface of the watch face; and a watch housing for housing at least a portion of the watch face and wireless communication circuitry operatively coupled to the antenna.
