A system for closing together a first side of a sternum and a second side of the sternum of a patient. The system includes a first grommet to be disposed in the first side. The system includes a second grommet adapted to be disposed in the second side. The system includes a mechanism for placing a grommet into the sternum. The placing mechanism is adapted to hold the grommet for placement in the sternum. The system includes a first wire suture for insertion through the first and second grommets. The system includes a stop mechanism for allowing the placing mechanism to place a grommet into the sternum only in a desired location of the patient and any other portion of the patient is protected from damage by the placing mechanism during operation. Cassette for programable multiple input infusion system

A single stacked cam bearing surface is used to actuate several cam followers in such manner that the cam bearing surface can move past one or more cam followers without actuation thereof but can be caused to stop at and actuate any desired cam follower. A stacked disc cam bearing surface of the improved cam actuator assembly of the present invention includes rotatable cam sub-assembly discs each having a surface well. The plurality of cam followers that bear against the bearing surface are selectively actuated by a controlled positioning of the cam sub-assembly discs that radially aligns the wells of the bearing surface with a selected cam follower. During a controlled rotation of the cam assemblies through an angular position of an intermediate cam follower, the wells of the sub-assembly discs of the cam bearing surface are radially mis-aliged, and thereby fail to actuate the cam follower during rotation through an intermediate angular position. The wells are aligned at a cam follower to be activated by a back and forth motion of the discs with the wells positioned under the followers.

A tocodynamometer for providing an electrical output related to body surface displacement of a patient, comprising, a housing, a patient contacting member, a support assembly mounting the member for controlled movement relative to the housing in response to the displacement, and an electro-optical transducer assembly for converting the controlled movement into the electrical output, the transducer assembly comprising relatively movable members one of which is coupled to the patient contacting member for movement therewith to vary the output in response to the controlled movement. In another aspect the support assembly comprises at least one planar spring element having a first portion fixed to the housing and a second portion fixed to the member.
