A composition useful as a blowing agent having no flash point or reduced combustibility comprising 2-chloropropane and a gas selected from the group consisting of a fluorohydrocarbon, perfluorocarbons, fluoroethers, hydrofluoropolyethers and mixtures thereof is disclosed. A polyisocyanurate foam or a polyurethane modified polyisocyanurate foam having a mainly closed cell structure and also a method for preparing this foam, the latter comprising closed cells wherein a foam blowing agent consisting of a mixture of 2-chloropropane and one or more HFC compounds including pentafluoropropane, pentafluorobutane, heptafluoropropane, hexafluoropropane or pentafluoroethane are disclosed. Pentanes can be added if desired. Azeotropic mixtures in which 2-chloropropane is an ingredient are disclosed.

Isopropyl chloride with hydrofluorocarbon or hydrofluoroether as foam blowing agents

Provided is a method and system for separating heavy ends from a halogenated alkane in a waste stream. The method includes: (a) removing a bottom fraction containing heavy ends from a catalyst recovery unit and conveying the bottom fraction to a vessel; (b) introducing steam into the bottom fraction containing heavy ends; (c) removing a halogenated alkane vapor and a water vapor from the waste treatment unit; (d) condensing the halogenated alkane and water vapors; and (e) separating the halogenated alkane phase and water phase from the heavy ends.

Separation of heavy ends from streams of halogenated alkanes

A method and composition are provided for controlling odor from waste products. The composition comprises a combination of chlorite salt and nitrate salt. The method includes the step of contacting the waste products or their surrounding airspace with the composition.

Method and composition for odor control

A stable, oil-in-water macroemulsion cleaner is provided which has low toxicity, rapid evaporation rate and leaves low residue after use. The cleaner comprises perchloroethylene, water, ethanol and/or ethyl acetate, and non-ionic surfactant. The macroemulsion cleaner can be used to remove greasy and oily soils from soiled surfaces, and is non-flammable as an aerosol spray with appropriate propellant formulations.

A superior catalyst for the oxychlorination of C.sub.2 hydrocarbon feeds comprises a mixture of copper chloride and alkali metal chloride, especially potassium chloride, and preferably also magnesium chloride, which mixture is deposited on an alumina support that has been thermally stabilized by integral incorporation therein of a certain class of lanthanide oxide. The use of such thermally stanle catalyst in the production of chlorinated hydrocarbons such as trichloroethylene and perchloroethylene by oxychlorination of a C.sub.2 hydrocarbon feed results in particularly good process efficiencies in terms of long on-stream times, relatively low reactor corrosion rates, high HC1 conversion, reduced burning, and convenienty flexible selectivity to specifically desired product.

Oxychlorination catalysts comprising copper chloride supported on

A vapor cleaning process for cleaning soil from solid articles comprising the use of an azeotropic vapor mixture of perchloroethylene and water as the cleaning agent which condenses on the articles and thus cleans them. Liquid perchloroethylene and water are placed in a lower portion of a degreasing chamber, the articles to be cleaned are introduced into an upper portion of the chamber, the perchloroethylene and water are heated and evaporated to form a minimum-boiling azeotropic vapor mixture, the vapor mixture is condensed on the articles whereby soil is removed from them, and the cleaned articles are then removed from the chamber.

Use of azeotropic compositions in vapor degreasing

A superior catalyst for the oxychlorination of C.sub.2 hydrocarbon feeds comprises a mixture of copper chloride and alkali metal chloride, especially potassium chloride, and preferably also magnesium chloride, which mixture is deposited on an alumina support that has been thermally stabilized by integral incorporation therein of a certain class of lanthanide oxide. The use of such thermally stable catalyst in the production of chlorinated hydrocarbons such as trichloroethylene and perchloroethylene by oxychlorination of a C.sub.2 hydrocarbon feed results in particularly good process efficiencies in terms of long on-stream times, relatively low reactor corrosion rates, high HCl conversion, reduced burning, and conveniently flexible selectivity to specifically desired product.

Oxychlorination process using a catalyst which comprises copper chloride

A superior catalyst for the oxychlorination of C.sub.2 hydrocarbon feeds comprises a mixture of copper chloride and alkali metal chloride, for instance, potassium chloride, and preferably also magnesium chloride, which mixture is deposited on an alumina support having a surface area in excess of 20 and less than 100 m.sup.2 /g. The thermal stability of such a catalyst composition can be further improved by incorporating 0.2 to 5 percent silica in the alumina support. The use of such microspheroidal catalyst in the production of perchloroethylene and trichloroethylene by oxychlorination of a C.sub.2 hydrocarbon feed in a fluidized bed reactor results in particularly good process efficiencies in terms of high HCl conversion, and good flexible selectivity to specifically desired product, reduced burning and long on-stream times.
