An application programming interface (API) resident on a computer is provided that, upon receiving a message that a data set associated with an encounter experienced by a subject is available, causes a processor to read a structured file associated with the data set, the structured file having a set of records assigned to a subset of pre-defined fields and a location of one or more unstructured objects, the pre-defined fields being organized according to an ontology having at least records related to the subject, the encounter and the data set; and populate at least first and second independent and distinct relational databases using endpoints of the API. The first relational database excludes records associated with the subject and the encounter and the second relational database includes records associated with the subject and the encounter. The second relational database includes multiple tables that can be accessed by invoking the API.

A low-coherence interferometry imaging system for imaging translucent samples, wherein the system includes an optical coherence microscopy (OCM) mode and an optical coherence tomography (OCT) mode, and wherein the system can selectively employ either mode without requiring re-positioning of a sample under test. The system provides for the selective disposition of the OCM mode or the OCT mode in an optical path intermediate a scanning system and an imaging objective.

Systems for determining an apex of curvature In an image, obtained from, a sample are provided. The systems include —an imaging system configured to obtain a plurality of scans of a sample using a radial pattern; and a processor associated with the imaging system. The processor is configured to segment and curve fit each of the plurality of scans to a surface of the sample; determine an apex. for each curve associated with each of the plurality of scans; determine a true apex, among all determined apexes using a derivative of least value; calculate an XY offset based on the determined true apex; map the true apex to an origin where X and Y are equal to zero; and adjust the coordinates associated with remaining apexes not determined to be the true apex based on the calculated offset.

D/Dis greater than 2, an absolute value of R/h is greater than 0.5, and 2θ is greater than zero (0) degrees.

Apparatus for calibrating retinal imaging systems

Integrated systems for collecting, storing, and distribution of images acquired of subjects in a research or clinical environment are provided. The system includes an image and data repository including a plurality of images originating from one or more image-generating devices, data associated with the images, and data associated with imaged subjects; and a workflow management module in direct communication with the image and data repository and with the one or more image-generating devices and/or storage devices that store the images of the imaged subjects, the workflow management module being configured to transport the images directly from the one or more image-generating devices and/or storage devices to the image and data repository and to manage the collation and distribution of images, data associated with the raw images and the data associated with the imaged subjects in the image and data repository. The workflow management module includes a data integration module, a data management module, a pre-processing engine and a data utilization module.

Methods, systems and computer program products for retrospective data mining

An integrated system for processing and using images acquired of subjects in a research or clinical environment is provided. The integrated system includes an image and data bank, a workflow management module, a cloud storage module and a pre-processing module. The pre-processing engine is positioned between the workflow management module and the cloud storage module and is configured to receive raw images, data associated with the raw images and the data associated with the imaged subjects from the workflow management module and process this data and provide the processed data to be pushed into the cloud storage module. The pre-processing engine also anonymizes the data to provide de-identified images and data to the cloud storage module and creates a key that relates the raw images, data associated with the raw images and the data associated with the imaged subjects to the de-identified, processed images and data. The key remains separate and un-connected from the de-identified, processed images and data. The key allows the de-identified, processed images and data to maintain traceability to the imaged subjects and to all subsequent operations on the images and data.

A method for segmenting images is provided including tessellating an image obtained from one of an image database and an imaging system into a plurality of sectors; classifying each of the plurality of sectors by applying one or more pre-defined labels to each of the plurality of sectors, wherein the pre-defined labels indicate at least one of an image quality metric (IQM) and a metric of structure; assigning each of the plurality of classified sectors an Image Quality Classification (IQC); identifying anchor sectors among the plurality of classified sectors, applying filtering and edge detection to identify target boundaries; applying contouring across contiguous sectors and using the assigned IQC as a guide to complete segmentation of an edge between any two identified anchor sectors; and smoothing across segmented regions to increase parametric second-order continuity.

Methods, systems and computer program products for classifying image data for future mining and training

Methods are provided for performing a surgical procedure using optical coherence tomography (OCT) including extracting lenticular material from within a capsular bag of the eye of a patient; placing a replacement lens within the capsular bag after extraction of the lenticular material from the capsular bag; acquiring a plurality of OCT images that visualize the placement of the replacement lens within the capsular bag; and determining from the plurality of OCT images a degree of contact of the posterior surface of the replacement lens with the posterior portion of the capsular bag.

Procedural optical coherence tomography (OCT) for surgery and related methods

Surgical microscopes are provided including at least one ocular, an objective lens; a collimated space between the at least one ocular and the objective lens; an illumination system optically coupled into the collimated space of the surgical microscope, wherein an illumination from the illumination system is directed along a path at least partially contained within the collimated space of the surgical microscope and through the objective lens; and one of a field diaphragm and obscuration mask positioned within the illumination system, and outside of a field of view of the at least one ocular, wherein the one of the field diaphragm and the obscuration mask blocks, attenuates or diverts rays from the illumination system that reflect from a surface of the objective lens such that the reflected rays are not visible through the at least one ocular.

Microscopes including illumination field diaphragms

Methods are provided including obtaining at least one image of a surgical region of a subject oriented for the surgical procedure using an OCT imaging system. An initial structural view of the surgical region to be used during the surgical procedure is constructed based on the obtained at least one OCT image. Parameters are computed as an end point for assessing an outcome of the surgical procedure using data derived from the OCT image. The surgical procedure is periodically assessed and clinical outcomes are monitored using changes to the OCT-derived initial structural view of the surgical region or changes to the computed at least one clinical parameter. It is determined if the surgical plan needs modification and it is modified during the surgical procedure. Operations repeat until it is determined that no more modifications are needed.

Field diaphragms for use in surgical microscopes are provided. The field diaphragms are positioned along an optical axis of a microscope illumination system. The field diaphragms include a frame portion configured to be received by the surgical microscope; and a non-circularly symmetric mask portion integrated with the frame portion. The mask portion is aligned such that marginal rays from an edge of the field diaphragm along a meridian of minimum diameter that reflect from a surface of an objective lens of the microscope reflect outside of an acceptance angle for relay through any ocular channel of the microscope.

Methods of performing surgery using optical coherence tomography (OCT)

Methods of obtaining a measure of blood flow using a Fourier domain optical coherence tomography (FDOCT) system is provided. The method includes obtaining a first optical coherence tomography (OCT) survey scan of a retina of a subject using an OCT scan beam and obtaining a second OCT scan of the retina. The second OCT scan is within an area defined by the obtained first OCT scan and includes a region of retinal blood vessels emerging from and returning to an Optic Nerve Head (ONH) of the retina. An optical phase change is determined from the obtained second OCT scan, the optical phase change being associated with blood flow in a retinal blood vessel in the region of the second OCT scan. An angle of the retinal blood vessel associated with the optical phase change is determined, the angle being measured relative to a direction of transmission of the OCT scan beam. A quantitative measure of vessel blood flow is computed using the optical phase change and the vessel angle relative to the direction of the OCT scan beam.

Systems and methods for quantitative doppler optical coherence tomography

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging systems are provided including a source of broadband optical radiation coupled to a sample arm of the OCT imaging system; a beam shaping optical assembly in the sample arm, the beam shaping optical assembly being configured to receive optical radiation from the source as a beam of optical radiation and to shape the spatial profile of the beam of optical radiation; a scan mirror assembly coupled to the beam shaping optical assembly; and objective lens assembly coupled to the beam shaping optical assembly. The beam shaping optical assembly includes a lens assembly configured to change a NA of the OCT system without changing a focus; to change a focus of the OCT system without changing a NA of the system; or to change both the NA and the focus of the OCT system responsive to a control input.

Hybrid telescope for optical beam delivery and related systems

OCT imaging systems are provided for imaging a spherical-type eye including a source having an associated source arm path and a reference arm having an associated reference arm path coupled to the source path. The reference arm path has an associated reference arm path length. A sample is also provided having an associated sample arm path coupled to the source arm and reference arm paths. A lens having a focal power optimized for a diameter of the spherical-type eye is provided along with a reference arm path length adjustment module coupled to the reference arm. The reference arm path length adjustment module is configured to automatically adjust the reference arm path length such that the reference arm path length is based on an eye diameter of the subject.
