Excess energy generated from renewable energy (solar or wind sources) is used to heat a liquid which is injected into a naturally-occurring permeable, porous subterranean reservoir where it heats constituent reservoir grain matrix, thereby storing energy and modifying the reservoir's storage capacity and transmissibility, and energy is recovered, as demands require, by producing hot reservoir fluids whose heat is transformed into electric power. By using water heated to at least 250° F., thermal stresses are induced to create a measurable increase of units of permeability (at least double, but up to tenfold or more), as well as an increase in porosity (up to 10 volume %) between a pair of wells located more than fifty meters apart as the reservoir is heated to in excess of approximately 500° F.

An apparatus and method are described for use in the area of equalizing and measuring the quality of steam exiting multiple branches in a two-phase distribution system. The system utilizes fluid level elevational differences to provide a self-correcting mechanism so that the system may be utilized regardless of incoming fluid quality or pressure. The system does not require an inlet seperator. A system having a T-junction with upper and lower manifolds is described. Also described is a system having a differential liquid bypass and vapor branch with flow restrictions. The flow restrictions may be an orifice plate, a venturi, or a control valve.

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for adjusting, measuring and controlling the vapor/liquid ratio of wet steam in the output line of a pipe junction in a two phase fluid flow line. The vapor phase and liquid phase of the two phase fluid are separated in the main flow line of the junction and the volume flow rate of each phase measured. The two phases are recombined at the plane of symmetry of the output line of the junction and the liquid flow rate is controlled and varied through an adjustable valve in a liquid phase bypass flow line.
