Described in example embodiments herein are techniques for implementing an automated banking machine such as an ATM. An example embodiments, tracks the flow of a note through an ATM. Another embodiment corrects errors detected during a note flow. Some embodiments are in the form of security protocols for communications or other communication protocols, or techniques for monitoring devices operating in the ATM. Yet another example embodiment is directed to security of a currency cassette. Still yet another embodiment is directed to detecting tampering of the ATM's gate and/or shuttle. Yet still another embodiment determines if notes in a shuttle were delivered.

Automated banking machine firmware flow control

In an example embodiment, there is described herein an method comprising a cassette operable to store documents, the cassette having an external surface, an electrophoretic display coupled with the external surface, and a wireless interface coupled with the cassette and operably coupled with the electrophoretic display. In particular embodiments, the electrophoretic display is operable to receive data representative of configuration from a wireless device in data communication with the wireless interface.

The machine is operable to carry out a financial transaction responsive to a determination that data read from a data bearing record, such as a card that is read by a card reader in the machine, corresponds to stored information for an authorized user or financial account. The machine is operable to receive and dispense documents. The machine includes a check acceptor that is operative to receive checks and a cash dispenser that is operative to dispense cash. Document holding cassettes in the machine include circuitry that is wirelessly powered through inductive coupling. The machine can wirelessly read data from a cassette through use of induction.

An automated banking machine operates to cause financial transfers responsive to data read from data bearing records. The automated banking machine includes a card reader operative to read card data from user cards corresponding to financial accounts. The automated banking machine also includes a display and a printer to produce records of financial transactions carried out with the machine. The card reader is operative to read and return card information read from the user card responsive. The automated banking machine further includes a sheet detector that is operative to detect at least one property usable to distinguish between the presence or absence of a sheet and/or determine a property of the sheet.

Card activated cash dispensing automated banking machine

An automated banking machine operates to carry out financial transfers responsive to data read form data bearing records. The machine includes a card reader that operates to read data from user cards. The card data corresponds to financial accounts. The machine further includes a cash dispenser and a receipt printer. The machine can dispense cash to an authorized user based on read card data including an identifier of an authorized financial account. The machine can cause a dispensed amount of cash to be transferred from the financial account through communication with at least one remote computer. The machine can also dispense cash in exchange for a check received through a check acceptor. The check acceptor includes a check imager that can scan a check to generate a check image. The check acceptor can read magnetic check data on a check and check data from a check image.

An automated banking machine operates to cause financial transfers responsive to data read from data bearing records. The automated banking machine includes a card reader operative to read card data from user cards corresponding to financial accounts. The automated banking machine also includes a display and a printer to produce records of financial transactions carried out with the machine. The card reader is operative to read and return card information read from the user card responsive. The automated banking machine may also include a check acceptor that is usable to determine a probability associated with the check being fraudulent.

An automated banking machine operates to cause financial transfers responsive to data bearing records. The automated banking machine includes a card reader that is operative to read data from user cards corresponding to a financial account. The automated banking machine further includes a sheet accepting device that is operative to receive at least one of notes and checks. A note acceptor includes at least one validator that includes at least one ultrasonic detector. The at least one validator is operative to identify suspect counterfeit notes produced by assembling pieces of genuine notes by identifying seams or other fastening features in the notes where such pieces are joined. The note validator may further include image sensors and/or radiation transmission sensors which are further usable to identify the presence of seams or other fastening features that can distinguish valid and suspect counterfeit notes.
