Systems and methods that use a differential spectral liquid level sensor to measure the level of liquid in a reservoir (e.g., a fuel tank or other storage container). The use of a differential spectral liquid level sensor solves the problem of common-mode intensity variations (i.e., intensity variations not due to the level of the liquid) by having two different wavelengths propagate through the same optical path but have different spectral attenuations in the liquid. By determining the ratio of the received optical powers, common-mode intensity variations can be neutralized, thereby enhancing the accuracy of the received power reading and the resulting liquid level indication.

Differential spectral liquid level sensor

A method, system, and apparatus for a diffractive based coherent aircraft position and anti-collision lighting system may include generating optical source signals in an aircraft lighting system utilizing one or more coherent light sources. The generated optical source signals may be communicated to diffractive optical elements in the aircraft via optical waveguides, and output optical signals may be generated for transmission out of the aircraft via the diffractive optical elements. The lighting system may comprise indicator lights and/or anti-collision lights. The coherent light source may comprise a solid state laser. The diffractive optical elements may be integrated in wingtips and/or a fuselage of the aircraft. The coherent optical sources may be located within a fuselage of the aircraft and/or within wings of the aircraft. The diffractive optical elements may be statically and/or dynamically controlled and may comprise liquid crystals.

Method, system, and apparatus for a diffractive based coherent aircraft position and anticollision lighting system

A method and apparatus comprising a projector system and a structure connected to the projector system. The projector system is configured to project an image on an exterior surface of an aircraft. The structure is configured to be connected to the aircraft and has a shape configured to reduce an undesired airflow caused by the projector system when the aircraft is in flight.
