A hybrid receiver apparatus, a method, and a computer readable storage media encoded with a program are provided. The hybrid receiver apparatus a first receiver processor and a second receiver processor and a signal input by the hybrid receiver apparatus is processed by both the first receiver processor and the second receiver processor. The hybrid receiver apparatus includes a combiner unit combining data output from the first receiver processor with data output from the second receiver processor based on a weight values assigned to the data.

Receiver and a receiving method

A signal receiver includes a sampling device for sampling a received signal carrying a stream of symbols to form a first set of actual samples. The signal receiver also includes interpolation means for interpolating between the samples of the first set to form a second set of interpolated samples. The signal receiver also includes symbol recovery means configured to process the first and second sets of samples so as to form an estimate of the symbols of the signal. The processing includes performing a temporal whitening step on signals derived from first and second sets of samples. The signal receiver also includes signal combining means using a matched filter and averaging technique.

The embodiment of the invention is related to a processor configured for determining a predetermined number of frequency estimates, determining an average of the frequency estimates for obtaining an averaged frequency offset, unbiasing received samples and/or impulse response values using the averaged frequency offset, calculating Doppler frequency estimates using the unbiased received samples and/or impulse response values and calculating selected second order statistics of the Doppler frequency estimates over a predetermined period and calculating a speed of a communication system terminal using the Doppler frequency.

A data transmission method comprises receiving a channel access request to a radio receiving unit from a mobile station of the telecommunication system, and performing an operation on the channel access request using a predefined configuration of devices and algorithms of the radio receiving unit. After filtering the background noise from the channel access request; a characteristic of the channel access request against at least one predefined detection rule, and the channel access request is considered valid if the characteristic of the channel access request fulfils the detection rule. Essentially, the detection rule is not dependent on the configuration of the radio receiving unit.
