A method for performing an oilfield operation of an oilfield having a subterranean formation. The method includes collecting oilfield data and deploying a first plug-in including a first oilfield technology functionality into an oilfield hosting application. The method further includes performing an oilfield analysis on the collected oilfield data in the oilfield hosting application using the first oilfield technology functionality of the first plug-in to generate an oilfield output and adjusting an oilfield operation based on the oilfield output.

Implementations of visualization controls are described. Some techniques described herein enable a user to interact with a geoscience object on display. In one possible embodiment, simultaneous movements of two or more user-controlled points are tracked using a motion monitoring system, such as cameras. The movement of the points is then interpreted as an interaction with the geoscience object and results in a corresponding alteration of the display of the geoscience object. One example interaction includes a compound manipulation (i.e. translation, rotation, scaling and/or skewing) of the geoscience object.

Method and apparatus for oilfield data repository

Techniques relating to an oilfield application for performing at least one oilfield operation are provided. The oilfield application is provided with a plurality of oilfield application modules, an application shell for defining an oilfield application, an adapter for encapsulating at least one of the oilfield application modules for compatibility with the application shell, and integration services for integrating the application modules into the application shell. Each of the oilfield application modules performs at least one task of an oilfield operation. The application shell is adapted to selectively receive the oilfield application modules. The loading services load the application modules into the application shell, the loading services initializing the application modules. The integrating services integrate the application modules for operability with the application shell whereby the at least one oilfield operation is enabled.

A method, computer system or computer program is provided for interactively constructing, editing, rendering and manipulating geoscience models, including aggregating the functionality of a geometry system and a graphics system, enforcing consistency between the geometry system and the graphics system, and interfacing the geometry system and the graphics system to an application through an integration layer. State machines are also provided that enable updating of only those graphics objects whose geometry or topology have been changed and that are specified as visible by the user, thus increasing performance. A scenegraph construction technique is also provided to reduce memory requirements and further enhance performance. A material property framework is provided, among other things, to communicate changes in the geometry or topology to aggregate objects which then determine which graphics objects are affected by the changes and which graphics objects are to be updated.

Method, apparatus and system for constructing and maintaining scenegraphs for interactive feature-based geoscience geometric modeling

This invention provides a means for balancing the computational workload of individual processing nodes of a multiprocessor computer, such as a massively parallel processor (MPP), when executing a seismic migration program. Groups of prestack seismic traces are loaded into 'input' nodes of the MPP. The 'input' nodes examine the traces to determine which bins in the seismic survey are covered by the traces, and how many traces cover each bin. Each input node then broadcasts to all other nodes a description of the trace coverage. All nodes use the information in each broadcast to determine how many bins will be assigned to each 'operator' node that will process the prestack data to produce poststack data. The bin assignment is designed to equalize the number of traces that each operator node processes. Thus, the invention provides a means for maximizing the efficiency with which an MPP can perform seismic migration processing, and is applicable to wide variety of MPPs and processing algorithms.

This invention provides a method for inputting seismic trace data to a seismic processing program running on a massively parallel processor (MPP). The MPP, consisting of a plurality of individual processing nodes connected by a data and control communications network, is treated as a bipartite system of 'operator' nodes and 'input' nodes. Operator nodes apply mathematical operators to transform seismic data. Groups of seismic traces are loaded into the input nodes. The input nodes examine the data to determine which regions of the seismic survey are covered by the traces. The input nodes then broadcast to all operator nodes a compact description of the trace coverage. The operator nodes then retrieve traces from the input nodes, using efficient data transfer mechanisms of the data network. The input nodes can be seen to serve as a distributed, content-addressable data cache. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the input nodes read trace data from a disk storage system using techniques that are efficient over a large range of numbers of nodes in the MPP and disks in the disk system. Thus, the invention provides an efficient method that can be used with MPP systems of various sizes.

A declarative object-oriented approach to menu construction provides a mechanism for specifying the behavior, appearance and function of menus as part of an interactive user interface. Menus are constructed from interchangeable object building blocks to obtain the characteristics wanted without the need to write new code or code and maintaining a coherent interface standard. The approach is implemented by dissecting interface menu behavior into modularized objects specifying orthogonal components of desirable menu behaviors. Once primary characteristics for orthogonal dimensions of menu behavior are identified, individual objects are constructed to provide specific alternatives for the behavior within the definitions of each dimension. Finally, specific objects from each dimension are combined to construct a menu having the desired selections of menu behaviors.
