The invention concerns a process for the removal of gaseous acidic contaminants, especially carbon dioxide and/or hydrogen sulphide, in two or more stages from a gaseous hydrocarbonaceous feedstream () comprising hydrocarbons and said acidic contaminants, using one or more membranes in each separation stages. The gaseous hydrocarbonaceous feedstream is especially a natural gas stream. The process is especially suitable for feedstreams comprising very high amounts of acidic contaminants, especially carbon dioxide, e.g. more than 25 vol. %, or even more than 45 vol. %. In a first stage () a pure or almost pure stream of acidic contaminants is separated from the feedstream, the acidic contaminants () stream suitably containing less than 5 vol % of hydrocarbons. The remaining stream () comprises the hydrocarbons and still a certain amount of gaseous acidic contaminants. In a second stage () a pure or almost pure stream of hydrocarbons () is separated from the remaining stream, where after the then remaining stream () is combined with the feed for the first stage (), the hydrocarbon stream suitably containing less than 5 vol % of acidic contaminants.

A method and cyclonic separator are disclosed for degassing a fluid mixture comprising a carrier liquid and one or more gaseous and/or vaporizable components, wherein: &#x2014;the fluid mixture is accelerated in a throat section () of a vortex tube () such that the static pressure of the fluid mixture is decreased and vaporizable components evaporate into a gaseous phase; &#x2014;the accelerated fluid mixture is induced to swirl within the vortex tube such that the fluid mixture is separated by centrifugal forces into a degassed liquid fraction and a gas enriched fraction; &#x2014;the degassed liquid fraction is induced to flow into a liquid outlet conduit () which is located at or near the outer circumference of the vortex tube (); and&#x2014;the gas enriched fraction is induced to flow into a gas outlet conduit () which is located at or near a central axis of the vortex tube ().

A mixture of fluids is separated into at least two phases, one of which has a higher density than the other, passing the mixture through a normally horizontal supply pipe, by creating a stratified flow in the supply pipe, by passing the mixture through an inclined pipe, whilse maintaining a stratified flow in the inclined pipe, by extracting fluid with lower density ('lighter phase') via a first discharge system and fluid with a higher density ('heavier phase') via a second discharge system, wherein the interface between the lighter phase and the heavier phase is monitored in the inclined pipe by a level controller means that varies the flow of the fluid of higher density to keep the interface between set levels.

Method and device for separating a mixture of fluids

System for producing de-watered oil from an underground formation to the surface, which system comprises a reception well having a substantially horizontal or inclined section for primary oil/water separation of the well fluid; a water discharge system having an upstream end that is capable of receiving during normal operation liquid from the lower region of the downstream part of the reception well; and a secondary underground oil/water separator having an upstream end that is capable of receiving during normal operation liquid from the upper region of the downstream part of the reception well, the secondary separator having an outlet for de-watered oil that is in fluid communication with the inlet of a production well and an outlet for a water-enriched component that is in fluid communication with the water discharge system.

This disclosure concerns a static oil/water separation chamber that is installed in a well extending to an underaround production formation containing hydrocarbon oil and water. The separation chamber has an inlet for receiving well fluid from a section below the separation chamber and two outlets. One outlet discharges a water-enriched component into a discharge well section, and the other outlet produces an oil-enriched component. The height of the separation chamber is larger than the thickness of the dispersion band that is formed under normal operating conditions.
