An automotive driveline unit housing can be that of a power transfer unit (PTU), a final drive unit (FDU), or a rear drive unit (RDU). The automotive driveline unit housing has a lubricant feed passage spanning from an inlet to an outlet. The outlet can be situated near a seal of the automotive driveline unit, near a bearing of the unit, near both the seal and bearing, or near another component. The lubricant feed passage can have a flow restrictor located near its outlet. When the unit is in a connected state, lubricant is received in the lubricant feed passage via a spinning gear of the unit. The received lubricant trickles through the flow restrictor. And when the unit is in a disconnected state, lubricant continues to trickle through the flow restrictor, even though lubricant may no longer be received in the lubricant feed passage via the gear.

A torque transfer device for a vehicle may include a housing and a variable angle constant velocity joint integrated with the housing. The joint may be connected between a drive mechanism and an output shaft for transmitting torque from the drive mechanism to the output shaft.

A boot assembly for a constant velocity joint includes a boot having a neck portion arranged to be received over a shaft that is coupled to the constant velocity joint, and a retainer or insert which may include a vent. The retainer or insert may be carried by the neck portion and has at least one flex feature to facilitate flexing thereof. The insert may have at least one projection that extends radially inwardly from the neck portion and defines part of an inner surface of the boot, or at least one vent path defined therein to facilitate venting of one or more chambers defined at least in part by the boot.

A constant velocity joint may include a joint chamber and a cover defining a bore and configured to seal the joint chamber and prevent lubricant from leaving the joint chamber. A vent valve may be disposed within the bore and define at least one opening. The opening may be a one-way valve configured to exhaust gas from the joint chamber and while maintaining lubricant within the joint chamber.

A differential flange assembly is disclosed herein that includes a flange member and a washer member. The flange member is defined by an engagement face and having an aperture therethrough. At least one slot is formed on the engagement face so as to extend radially outward from the aperture. The washer member has at least one tab extending from a peripheral edge of the washer member and at least one opening. The tab is configured to be seated within the slot to mate the washer member to the engagement face of the flange member. The interaction of the slot of the flange member and the tab of the washer member prevent rotation of the washer member with respect to the flange member.

A joint apparatus includes an outer joint portion having an opening end, an outer joint axis, and an outer joint inside surface defining, at least in part, an internal vault. The joint apparatus also includes an inner joint portion including a spider interposed within the outer joint portion and a shaft extending through the opening end. The spider includes a trunnion. The trunnion is at least partially interposed within the vault. The shaft defines a shaft axis. The inner joint portion includes an angular range of motion limiting device that selectively restricts the articulation of the shaft relative to the outer joint to prevent the shaft from contacting the outer joint.

A vent valve for a constant velocity joint is disclosed. The vent valve may generally include a body disposed in a bore of the cover which is axially movable in the bore and allows fluid flow through the bore, a first umbrella portion associated with a side of the body which defines a first gap between a first surface of the cover and the first umbrella portion, and a second umbrella portion associated with an opposite side of the body which defines a second gap between a second surface of the cover and the second umbrella portion.

A barrier membrane assembly for sealing a constant velocity joint assembly includes at least one selectively expandable and contractible barrier membrane body. The barrier membrane body has no openings therethrough and may selectively expand and contract in response to operational pressures acting against the barrier membrane body.

A direct torque flow constant velocity joint connector includes an outer joint part, and inner joint part, a cage and a plurality of balls. The outer joint part includes outer ball tracks. The inner joint part includes inner ball tracks and a rotational axis, wherein the inner joint part has a face spline oriented about the rotational axis. The plurality of balls are provided in the cage and engage the inner and outer ball tracks of the respective inner and outer joint parts, thereby allowing torque transmission by way of the face splines. Also provided is a direct torque flow constant velocity joint connection.

A shield for sealing a joint includes a first end, a second end and an annular shell. The first end is adapted for axial retention on an outer joint part, where the outer joint part is rotationally coupled to an inner joint part. The second end is adapted for abutting contact with a semi-spherical portion of the inner joint part. The annular shell extends between the first end and the second end thereby providing a seal for the joint. Also provided is a grease shield sealing system for a direct torque flow constant velocity joint.

A connecting assembly between a shaft journal and a constant velocity universal joint having an outer joint part and an inner joint part engaged by the shaft journal. The inner joint part includes an elongated neck portion with at least one insertion groove formed therein, and the shaft journal has at least one corresponding insertion groove. A securing clip engages the corresponding insertion grooves to axially secure the inner joint part and shaft journal with respect to each other. A boot is axially secured to the inner joint part neck portion, substantially enveloping the inner joint part, and sealingly engaging an outer surface of the outer joint part to seal at least one side of a joint chamber of the constant velocity universal joint.
