A system for transmitting and receiving wireless signals through a physical barrier, such as walls or windows, to wireless computing devices that are located internal to a structure that is formed in part by the physical barrier. The wireless signals are millimeter waveforms with gigahertz frequencies that are communicated with 5G communication protocols by one or more remote base station nodes located external to the physical barrier. One or more external antennas are configured to communicate RF wireless signals with HMA waveforms to remote wireless base station. In one or more embodiments, the RF wireless signals are amplified and communicated bi-statically through the window barrier between customer premises equipment and an authorized remote wireless base station.

Communication of wireless signals through physical barriers

A device may include an antenna subsystem to support image sensing and wireless network communications. A device may include a localization subsystem to determine a location of a wireless base station within a defined region via computational imaging of the region using an image-sensing antenna of the antenna subsystem operating at a sensing frequency within the operational frequency band of the wireless base station. A device may include a communication subsystem to adjust a steering angle of a communication antenna based on the location of the wireless base station as determined by the localization subsystem.

Computational sensing for telecommunication target localization

A switchable patch antenna comprises a planar conductor having an aperture (hole) formed in the middle of the planar conductor. Radiation of a sinusoidal signal is controlled by comparison of separate impedance values for two components that have separate impedance values. Each of the two components have one end coupled together at the terminal positioned at a center of the aperture and their other ends separately coupled to opposing edges of the aperture. A sinusoidal signal source is also coupled to the terminal positioned at the aperture's center. Further, when the impedance values of both components are substantially equivalent, radiation by the antenna of the provided signal and/or mutual coupling of other signals is disabled. Also, when an impedance value of one of the two components is substantially greater than the other impedance value of the other component, the provided signal is radiated and/or mutual coupling is enabled.

Switchable patch antenna

A system for 5G radio access networks, that enables smart RF signal repeater devices to perform many of the functions of a 5G base station to extend millimeter wave coverage for 5G communication networks while reducing costs, increasing versatility and optimizing coverage for user devices (UEs). The devices may include outdoor network repeaters and indoor subscriber repeaters, and other mmWave network transmitter devices in a mmWave network. Different types of 5G wireless communication networks may be employed including Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN), and Next Gen Radio Access Network (NG-RAN).

Smart repeater systems

A method for performing monitoring, commissioning, upgrading, analyzing, load balancing, remediating, and optimizing the operation, control, and maintenance of a plurality of remotely located RF signal repeater devices in a wireless network arranged to operate as an Internet of Things (IoT) network. Electronic RF signal repeater devices are employed as elements in the wireless network and communicate wireless radio frequency (RF) signals for a plurality of users. An RF signal repeater device may be arranged to operate as a donor unit device that provides RF signal communication between one or more remotely located wireless base stations, or other donor unit devices on the wireless network. Also, an RF signal repeater device may be arranged to operate as a service unit device that provides wireless RF signal communication between one or more user equipment devices (UEs) and a donor unit device or a wireless base station.

RF signal repeater device management for 5G wireless networks

A wireless communication network such as a 5G communication network can use MIMO technologies to enhance bandwidth between a wireless communications base station and one or more user equipment devices within a service area of the base station. RF signal repeaters can be utilized to provide one or more additional physical channels for communication between the MIMO base station and the MIMO user equipment. These RF signal repeaters can be regarded as increasing the MIMO channel diversity within the ambient environment.

Multipath repeater systems

The invention compensates for abnormal operating temperatures and/or abnormal behaviors of a holographic metasurface antenna (HMA) that is generating a beam based on a holographic function. The HMA is characterized with different holographic functions for a plurality of operating temperatures and a plurality of behaviors during the manufacturing process. The characterization of the HMA identifies different hologram functions that cause the HMA to generate more or less heat or exhibit more or less abnormal behavior while generating equivalent beams. Further, or more characterizations of a hologram function may be performed remotely after the HMA is installed in a real world environment. An operating temperature and/or a temperature gradient may be detected by temperature sensors physically located on a circuit board for the HMA.

Thermal compensation for a holographic beam forming antenna

Empirically modulated antenna systems and related methods are disclosed herein. An empirically modulated antenna system includes an antenna and a controller programmed to control the antenna. The antenna includes a plurality of discrete scattering elements arranged in a one- or two-dimensional arrangement. A method includes modulating operational states of at least a portion of a plurality of discrete scattering elements of the antenna in a plurality of different modulation patterns. The plurality of different modulation patterns includes different permutations of the discrete scattering elements operating in different operational states. The method also includes evaluating a performance parameter of the antenna responsive to the plurality of different empirical one- or two-dimensional modulation patterns. The method further includes operating the antenna in one of the plurality of different one- or two-dimensional empirical modulation patterns selected based, at least in part, on the performance parameter.

Empirically modulated antenna systems and related methods

A switchable dual polarization patch antenna with improved cross polarization isolation to concurrently radiate horizontally polarized signals and vertically polarized signals. A planar conductor is arranged with a first terminal and a second terminal that are vertically spaced on a portion of the planar conductor to radiate a component of a vertically polarized signal with zero degrees of phase shift from one of the two terminals and radiate another component of the vertically polarized signal having a 180 degrees of phase shift from the other of the two terminals. A hybrid coupler can provide the 180 degrees of phase shift. A horizontally polarized signal is radiated from a third terminal that is horizontally spaced on another portion of the planar conductor and coupled to a horizontally polarized signal source. The direction of the 180 phase shift for the first and second components of the vertically polarized signal may be selected. Also, a direction for a phase shift for the horizontally polarized signal may be selectable.
