Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for unifying graphical user interface (GUI) displays across different device types. In an embodiment, a unification system may convert various GUI view appearing on, for example, a desktop device into a GUI view on a mobile device. Both devices may be accessing the same application and/or may use a cloud computing platform to access the application. The unification system may aid in reproducing GUI modifications performed on one user device onto other user devices. In this manner, the unification system may maintain a consistent look-and-feel for a user across different computing device type.

A database system maintains a multi-tenant database associated with a number of users and a number of web application components each with one or more component attributes. The system displays a user interface for the web application builder framework with a layout including a number of web application components, and processes decorator rules for rendering the components. The system also processes decorator override rules for some attributes of the components. The system displays the prepared user interface with decorator rules and overrides, and, based on a user request to access one or more attributes of the components, presents those attributes for display with the decorator override rules applied.

A browser on a client device can receive a form definition that is generated based on a schema of a relational database and a layout. The schema in the form definition can specify properties of data fields. The browser can display the data fields and other components of the layout in a list. The browser can receive a drag-and-drop input, the drag-and-drop input selecting a data field or a layout component from the list and dropping the selected data field or layout component in a drop zone in a form area in the browser. The browser can determine the drop location, and use the drop location as a parameter to modify the form definition. The layout and the schema can be modified based on the modified form definition.

The configurable metadata can be stored in one or more system tables in the relational database. The configurable metadata can be specific to the user, or to a work group of the user. The configurable metadata can change when the first data item or the second data item is modified.
