Focusing electrodes help to collimate the droplets into a tight droplet stream and, optionally, steering electrodes help direct the tight droplet stream. A charge removal system neutralizes or removes the charge from the droplets, either during the deposition of the droplets on a substrate or after the droplets have been deposited on a substrate.

An Adaptive Current-collector Electrochemical (ACE) system utilizes an array of contact pads and associated current control transistors to control localized current generation in discrete regions of a battery. Each contact pad is formed on a battery electrode (anode or cathode) and coupled to an associated discrete battery region, and is connected by an associated transistor to a current collection plate. Sensors are used to monitor operating parameters (e.g., localized current flow and operating temperature) of each discrete battery region, and a control circuit uses the sensor data to control the operating state of the transistors, whereby localized current flow through each transistor is increased, decreased or turned off according to measured local operating parameters. The control circuit utilizes local control circuits that process local sensor data using 'stand-alone' control logic, or a central controller that processes all sensor data and coordinates transistor operations.

Adaptive current-collector electrochemical system

A system and method are provided for using magnetic elements to secure thin wires precisely in an injection molding process in a manner that matches a three-dimensional shape of the an injection molded product produced by the injection molding (overmolding) process. The thin wires are substantially immobilized in a manner that is designed to generally overcome the tendency of the thin wires, which have little mechanical strength, to normally deflect during an injection molding process by employing the magnetic forces produced by embedded magnets. Magnets are integrated into either the cavity or core of a mold structure and the thin wires are placed on those magnets to keep the wires in place during an injection molding process that allows the thin wires to be overmolded. A balance of the core and/or cavity of the mold will be formed of a non-magnetic material.

The oleophobic membrane includes a metal structure having a nanostructured surface and low-surface energy coating disposed on the metal structure.

Approaches to remove bubbles from ink in an ink jet printer are described. Bubble removal may be implemented using a membrane disposed along an ink flow path. The membrane includes first and second component membranes having first and second coefficients of thermal expansion. The membrane is configured to, in response to a change in ink temperature, mechanically displace as a function of temperature due to a difference in the thermal coefficients of expansion of the first and second component membranes. The mechanical displacement of the membrane causes a volumetric change in a portion of the ink flow path.
