A method of providing visual indication of a device connection speed proceeds by determining a connection speed of the device and selecting a visual indicator representative of the connection speed. Once the appropriate indicator has been selected, the visual indicator is then displayed.

A method that includes coupling a first device to a client device using a universal serial bus (USB) link, and detecting, by the first device, a USB operating system (OS) descriptor request made by the client device. The method further includes reporting, by the first device, a mass storage interface to the client device in response to a detected USB OS descriptor request, and using the mass storage interface to install, in the client device, a device driver associated with the first device.

A network device including a controller, a transmitter and a receiver. The controller is configured to generate a first request that initiates, via a cloud, scanning of a document via a scanner. The cloud includes a service device, and a document device that is separate from the document device. The transmitter is configured to, prior to the scanner scanning the document, transmit the first request from the network device to the service device. The receiver is configured to, based on the first request received at the service device and subsequent to the scanner scanning the document, receive an image file transmitted from the document device to the network device without prior transmission of the image file from the document device to the service device. The image file includes an image of the document.

A secure media device preferably includes a Universal Serial Bus (USB) Mass Storage Class (MSC) interface. A storage media area is also preferably provided. The storage media is preferably divided into a first and second area by arranging the storage media into multiple Logical Units (LUNs). The second area is preferably accessed in a conventional manner using a host USB MSC driver through the USB MSC interface on the storage device. A password dialog application can be located in the second area of the storage device.

Apparatus having corresponding methods and computer-readable media comprise: a controller configured to generate a cloud scan request, wherein the cloud scan request represents a request to scan a document using cloud services; a transmitter configured to transmit the cloud scan request to a cloud print service; and a receiver configured to receive an image file from a cloud document service, wherein the file includes an image of the document.

A service device that comprises a storage drive, where the storage drive includes an installer program, a device driver, and a mass storage interface. The mass storage interface is configured to enumerate the storage drive to a client device when the service device is coupled to the client device for a first time. The client device auto-launches the installer program in response to the service device being enumerated to the client device for the first time. The installer program installs the device driver in the client device in response to being auto-launched.

A system of networked computers and peripherals and document delivery software which provides a user with a familiar simple user interface to deliver documents to a variety of different destinations. Each document generation device participating in the system is provided with a unified print driver which translates an electronic document into a non-specific or printer independent printer language file and appends to this file a job ticket containing any other rendering characteristics which may not be supported by the printer independent language. This entire file is then transmitted to the system server which analyzes the file, including the rendering characteristics; determines the best output device(s); appends output device specific commands to the general printer language file; and transmits this file to the device(s) for final output.

Automatic network device selection and document delivery system

A method of communicating between a host and a USB-connected device is provided, in which a first and second phase of a communications protocol are asynchronously transmitted between the host and the device. A third phase of the communications protocol can also be asynchronously transmitted with the first and second phases. The USB-connected device can be a mass storage device and the communications protocol can be a bulk-only transport protocol having a command phase, a data phase, and a status phase.
