Chair

A chair has a seat and reclinable back with a pair of armrests pivotably attached to the back. The back includes an outer shell and a mating inner shell. A bolt attaches each armrest to the outer shell and the inner shell is provided with sleeves for receiving the bolts and thereby securing the inner shell to the outer shell. By this arrangement, a single bolt provides for both the pivotable attachment of an armrest as well as for attaching the two mating shells together without any exposed hardware.

Chair construction

A chair has a seat supported on a base support assembly. The support assembly includes an upper bracket with a transverse tube mounted on the forward end thereof. The seat includes an upper shell having hooks extending downwardly from the underside thereof. The hooks are dimensioned and configured to engage the tube and provide for pivotable movement of the upper shell about the tube.

A control mechanism for a chair having a seat and back includes a first rigid member having a forward end and a rearward end with a first pivot mechanism provided proximate the forward end and a second pivot mechanism provided proximate the rearward end. A second rigid member has a forward end and a rearward end with the forward end being pivotably connected to the first pivot mechanism and with a third pivot mechanism provided proximate the rearward end. The second rigid member is secured to an underside of the seat. A third rigid member is provided having an upper end and a lower end with the lower end being pivotably connected to the third pivot mechanism. A fourth rigid member is provided having an upper end and a lower end, the upper end being rigidly connected to the third rigid member and the lower end being pivotably connected to the second pivot mechanism of the first rigid member. The upper end of the third rigid member is pivotably connected to the back of the chair. Thereby, shifting of a user's position on the seat provides a self-adjusting back tension feature of the chair.

A chair has a control mechanism configured to limit the angle of tilt of the chair back rest relative to the seat. The control mechanism includes a bracket member configured to be supported on a vertical column of a chair base. A rotational member attachable to the chair back rest is supported for rotation on an end of the bracket member. A generally elongated stop member is secured to the tubular member at a position extending inwardly of the end of the bracket member. A slide member extends along the longitudinal axis of the bracket member and has one end provided with at least one downwardly directed inclined edge. The stop member has a free distal end configured to engage the inclined edge and limit rotation of the tubular member. By this arrangement, the chair user can adjust the degree of rearward tilt of the back rest by selected movement of the slide member longitudinally of the bracket member.
