A traumatic brain injury ('TBI') guideline system employing a patient monitoring sensor () and a patient monitoring device (). In operation, the patient monitoring sensor () generates data for monitoring a TBI parameter of a patient (e.g., systolic blood pressure, blood oxygen saturation or carbon dioxide expiration of the patient), and the patient monitoring device () generates a TBI indicator derived from a comparison of the TBI parameter data to parameter guideline data associated with a potential TBI of the patient. The patient monitoring device () may include a patient data monitor module () to monitor the TBI parameter data, and a TBI monitor module () to generate the TBI indicator. The TBI indicator is informative of a TBI status of the patient (e.g., a hypotension status, a hypoxia status or a ventilation status of the patient), and/or a TBI treatment for the patient (e.g., a ventilation treatment for the patient).

Traumatic brain injury guideline system and method

Automated analysis and interpretation of spirograms is provided to assess lung function of a subject. If the shape of a spirogram plot is deemed suitably reliable, the spirogram may be subsequently used for diagnostic purposes. Quality control of spirograms and/or interpretation of reliable spirograms may use shape templates corresponding to common test problems and/or typical lung diseases.

Automated spirogram analysis and interpretation

Immediately after airway placement and/or following any patient transfer, an automated program may be activated in a CO2 monitoring device to provide an airway device placement check. The automated program needs time to determine if the airway placement has been successful or not. During analysis of CO2 respiration data by the program, real-time feedback is displayed to the user as soon as the airway check program is activated until the time that a final decision on the success of airway placement is made. The real-time feedback displays one or more indicators of the progress of the program toward a determination of a successful or failed placement.

A defibrillator and method that uses ECG signals from limb lead electrodes for display and monitoring, even when a separate set of therapy pads are present at the patient. The limb lead ECG signal is used for display and to determine whether electrotherapy is necessary. The determination is a prerequisite to arming and delivery of the electrotherapy.

An improved medical capnographysystem () automatically determines the effect of therapy on the underlying patient. The system enable the determination of proper endotracheal tube or advanced airway placement, the effectiveness of CPR, and the occurrence of the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) or loss of spontaneous circulation by use of a therapy analyzer () implementing an analyze therapy algorithm (). The system may be implemented in platform-independent hardware or software.

Capnography system for automatic diagnosis of patient condition

An ECG monitoring system continuously monitors a patient's ECG waveform and periodically identifies the patient's QT interval. QT interval values are averaged over time and a corrected interval value QTc and a change in QTc relative to a baseline, dQTc, are periodically produced. An alarm is responsive to updated QT interval values and issues an alarm whenever a selected QT value exceeds an alarm limit. The periodically produced QT interval values are stored and a trend display may be produced showing changes in the QT interval information over different periods of time. The trend display may selectively display the trend information either graphically or in tabular form.

In a cardiographic apparatus (), a plurality of electrodes () are configured for operative connection with a subject (). A cardiograph (') is connected with the plurality of electrodes to acquire cardiographic data. A respiratory gate () is configured to identify end expiration periods or other quiescent respiratory periods so as to generate a cardiographic dataset () limited to the identified end-expiration periods from cardiographic data acquired by the cardiograph at least during the identified end expiration periods.

Respiration-gated cardiography

A CO2 monitoring system () is described which is operable to monitor the CO2 content of respiratory gases during intubation, CPR, or ventilation treatment of a patient. The patient's respiratory gases are sensed for CO2 content () and characteristics of a CO2 waveform are detected (), such as waveform baseline, waveform amplitude, waveform frequency, waveform slope, waveform rhythm, and waveform corners. One or more of the waveform characteristics are analyzed in consideration of the type of respiration treatment being performed to identify an abnormal respiratory condition. These abnormal conditions may include the intubation tube located in the esophagus, ineffective CPR, or an airway obstruction, for example. When an abnormal condition is identified () a visual or audible alarm () is issued to alert a caregiver to tend to the patient.

Carbon dioxide monitoring system

An atrial fibrillation (AF) monitor extracts two P wave features and an R-R interval feature from a sequence of ECG waveforms. The features are used by a classifier to classify a heart rhythm as AF or non-AF. The AF classification results may be further processed to reduce false alarm reporting. The AF classification results are used by an AF burden calculator to report AF burden in real time.

Real time atrial fibrillation monitoring

A diagnostic ECG system analyzes lead traces for evidence of ST elevation in the lead signals. The pattern of ST elevation in leads having predetermined vantage points to the electrical activity of the heart and, in some instances, the presence of ST depression in certain other leads, identifies a specific coronary artery or branch as the culprit coronary artery for an acute ischemic event. The identity of the culprit coronary artery or branch is presented to the interventional cardiologist so that the correct coronary artery is accessed and the obstruction cleared. The technique can be used with standard 12-lead ECG systems as well as with ECG systems using fewer or more leads.
