The invention is directed to a filling arrangement for filling and emptying an anesthetic vaporizer with an anesthetic liquid from a supply vessel via a filling channel and a venting channel. The filling arrangement includes a connecting piece for connecting the arrangement to the anesthetic vaporizer and has a blocking device mounted in a conduit member which includes the filling channel and venting channel. The filling arrangement is improved so that it can be reliably handled with anesthetic liquids having a low boiling point. For this purpose, the blocking device includes a temperature-sensitive switching member which enables the filling channel to be opened below a preselected limit temperature and to be closed above this preselected temperature. The preselected temperature is below the boiling point of the anesthetic liquid.

The invention is directed to a controllable expiration valve having a control valve for generating an end expiratory overpressure with the control valve providing the changeable control pressure. The expiration valve is improved so that it is made controllable for compensating dynamic end expiratory overpressure. For this purpose, the membrane chamber of the expiration valve as well as the outflow chamber of the control valve are connected with a device for generating an underpressure.

A mobile intensive care unit for the reception of devices and instruments, which are arranged in various sections of a frame, is improved so that an ergonomically coordinated arrangement of the devices is possible, allowing for a combined use and control from an operating level for the parameters to be set and controlled, and also allowing for uninhibited access to the various sections. For this purpose the sections, which are inclined away from the vertical plane at several different angles, are superimposed in connected levels; in an upper section, a middle section, and a lower section for the reception and use of the devices. The upper section has a viewing and indicator unit which is approximately vertical, the section below it comprises control and indicator elements for a setting and control unit and the lower section, which is approximately horizontal, comprises an inclined reception holder for liquid dosing units and it comprises at least one approximately horizontal depositing surface for the desk holder.

A method and apparatus of determining the alcohol content of the breath of a test person comprising, measuring the alcohol content of the breath to produce an alcohol content signal, measuring the change in the alcohol content signal, measuring a flow of the breath of the test person, and indicating the alcohol content using the alcohol content signal only when the change in the signal per unit time is below a preselected change value and the flow is above a preselected flow value and where the flow has not dropped below the predetermined flow value since it first reached the predetermined flow value. The change in the signal is determined by the change in the signal per unit time, times the inverse of the instantaneous value for the signal. When the change in the signal satisfies the requirement, a control signal is fed to an AND gate. When the flow value is reached, a second control signal is supplied to the AND gate through a first flip-flop circuit which is connected to a second flip-flop circuit so that no signal is applied to the AND gate if the flow value has dropped below the preselected flow value after it first reached the preselected flow value.
