An air handling system a housing defining an inlet section which includes a first inlet portion and a second inlet portion. The first inlet portion includes a first recirculation inlet receiving recirculated air from a passenger compartment of the vehicle and a first ambient air inlet receiving ambient air from the environment. The second inlet portion includes a second recirculation inlet receiving recirculated air from the passenger compartment of the vehicle and a second ambient air inlet receiving the ambient air from the environment. A first air distribution door and a first baffle door are disposed in the inlet section to selectively control distribution of the recirculated air and the ambient air entering the first inlet portion. A second air distribution door and a second baffle door are disposed in the inlet section to selectively control distribution of the recirculated air and the ambient air entering the second inlet portion.

The mixing and conditioning section has an evaporator core and a heater core disposed therein. The heater core is disposed downstream from the evaporator core. An air-handling system for a motor vehicle includes a conditioning section having an evaporator core and a heater core. The conditioning section is separated into a primary zone and a secondary zone at a position disposed upstream of the heater core. The heater core extends partially into each of the primary zone and the secondary zone. A primary door assembly is disposed within the conditioning section at a position upstream of the heater core and a secondary door assembly is disposed within the secondary zone of the conditioning section at a position downstream of the primary door and upstream of the heater core.

The inlet section includes a recirculation inlet in fluid communication with a passenger compartment of the vehicle and a fresh air inlet in fluid communication with an ambient environment. A baffle door is disposed in the inlet section for selectively reducing a flow area through the fresh air inlet to accommodate a ram air pressure induced by motion of the vehicle relative to fresh air of the ambient environment.

An air handling system for a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system of a motor vehicle includes a conduit configured to convey air from the air handling system to a vent of the air handling system. A control door is rotatably disposed in the conduit. The control door selectively rotates between a first position and a second position. The first position blocks passage of the air flowing through the conduit. The second position blocks passage of the air flowing through a first portion of the conduit and allows the air to flow through a second portion of the conduit. A control feature is disposed in the second portion of the conduit to control at least one of a volumetric flow rate and a pressure of the air flowing through the second portion.

A heat pump system for a vehicle comprises a heating, ventilating, and air conditioning module as well as a refrigerant circuit including a compressor, an internal condenser, and an external condenser. The module comprises a warm air path including the internal condenser, a cold air path formed independently from the warm air path, a purge flow path branching from the warm air path at a position downstream of the internal condenser with respect to a flow of air through the module, and a purge control door adjustable between a first position preventing fluid communication between the warm air path and the purge flow path and a second position allowing fluid communication between the warm air path and the purge flow path. The purge flow path provides fluid communication between the warm air path and the ambient environment.

An air-handling system for a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system of a vehicle includes a main housing comprising a conditioning section, a mixing section, and a delivery section having a flow of air passing therethrough. The delivery section includes a conduit branching into a windshield defrost pathway and a demist pathway, the windshield defrost pathway leading to windshield defrost vents of a passenger compartment of the vehicle and the demist pathway leading to side window defrost vents of the passenger compartment. A control door rotatably disposed in the conduit is adjustable through a range of rotational positions wherein a flow area through the windshield defrost pathway is variably restricted while the demist pathway remains unobstructed. The control door is further adjustable to a position wherein the windshield defrost pathway and the demist pathway are closed.

An air handling system for a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system of a motor vehicle having a passenger compartment, includes a main housing having a first mode door rotatably disposed therein and a second mode door rotatably disposed therein. An actuator drives the first mode door. A control mechanism is disposed within the housing and is configured to control a simultaneous rotational position of each of the first mode door and the second mode door.

A climate control system for a vehicle comprises a housing and a diverter. The housing has a first conduit formed therein. The first conduit includes a first subconduit formed in an intermediate portion of the first conduit and a second subconduit disposed adjacent an end of the first subconduit. The diverter is rotatably disposed within the first conduit, and includes a first member having an outer edge and an offset edge. The outer edge is disposed on a first planar portion of the first member and configured to sealingly contact a wall of the first subconduit when the diverter is in a first position. The offset edge is disposed on a second planar portion of the first member and configured to sealingly contact a portion of the second subconduit when the diverter is in the first position.

An air handling system for a vehicle comprises a conditioning section for controlling a temperature of a flow of air, a mixing section disposed downstream of the conditioning section with respect to a direction of the flow of the air, and a delivery section disposed downstream of the mixing section with respect to the direction of the flow of the air. The delivery section includes a first chamber, a second chamber, and a third chamber. A dividing plate separates each of the second chamber and the third chamber into a first side portion to a first side of the dividing plate and a second side portion to an opposing second side of the dividing plate. The second side portion of the third chamber is configured to primarily direct the flow of the air towards a rear seat area of the vehicle.
