An improved emergency response system includes a set of databases which relates to volunteer responders and patients, which is controlled by a central system computer. The system interacts with patients and volunteer responders through a wireless network to patient and volunteer communicator devices. The emergency response system calculates and provides a compensation to the volunteer responders based upon their on-duty time, proximity to enrolled patients, and optionally based upon their performance during training and cardiac rescue events.

Rapid response system for cardiac arrest

A monitoring device for monitoring the readiness state of an automated external defibrillator (AED) and communicating the state to a remote receiver is described. The method uses a fault identification logic operable to detect an AED with a depleted battery. An associated method is described as well. The monitoring device captures both of a parameter related to the activation of the AED fault alert indicator and a second parameter that indicates a positive AED battery state.

A defibrillator such as an automated external defibrillator (AED) includes a manual override feature which enables the AED to reduce the power consumption and owner annoyance after a self-testing fault. The AED, upon sensing a press of a manual override button or a receipt of an acknowledgement signal from a remote service provider, defers one or both of an alarm output and a subsequent self-test for a predetermined correction period. The deferral allows the user to correct the self-test fault during the correction period without further annoyance.

Method and apparatus for non-audible sensing of a defibrillator status indicator

An automated external defibrillator (AED) is described which includes two electrocardiogram (ECG) analyzers. One of the ECG analyzers is suitable for use only for ECG which is signal-noise-free, and thus may be used during 'hands-off' analysis periods in which no cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) compressions can be provided. The length of the 'hands-off' analysis period can be shortened by use of the second ECG analyzer in concert with the first ECG analyzer. Thus, a greater proportion of CPR time through the course of a cardiac arrest rescue is achieved.

A CPR guidance device for placement and use on the chest of an adult patient. The device guides a rescuer in the application of an adult CPR protocol. The device also senses patient characteristics indicative of an infant patient. If the device senses that the patient in an infant, it appropriately warns the rescuer that the device is for adult patient use only.

A substantially rigid defibrillator carrying case having a hinged side, a latch disposed on a latch side opposite the hinged side, and a handle disposed on a handle side disposed between the hinged side and the latch side. The carrying case is constructed without protrusions and with a rigid handle, which combine to allow easy removal and deployment of the contents from a vehicle storage location to a cardiac arrest patient. An improved defibrillator electrode () has two separate peel tabs (). At least one of the peel tabs is located on the same edge of the electrode backing as that of the electrode wire. The disposition of the peel tabs improves the ability of the rescuer to apply the electrodes to a patient after the electrodes are removed from the release liner (). In addition, the peel tab reduces the risk of damage to the electrode during removal from the release liner.

A multilingual defibrillator is capable of concurrently providing audible prompts for the operation of the defibrillator in multiple languages. The defibrillator includes a memory for storing data files representative of audible prompts in a plurality of languages. A controller is coupled to the memory and configured to select data files of audible prompts in first and second languages and generate first electrical signals and second electrical signals representative of the audible prompts in the first and second languages, respectively. First and second audible sound generators are coupled to the controller to receive respective electrical signals and configured to generate audible output in response to the respective electrical signals.
