A process for converting feedstock comprising hydrocarbon compounds to product comprising hydrocarbon compounds of lower molecular weight than said feedstock hydrocarbon compounds which comprises contacting said feedstock at conditions for said conversion with catalyst comprising crystals having a framework topology after heating at 110.degree. C. or higher giving an X-ray diffraction pattern with interplanar d-spacings at 16.4.+-.0.2 Angstroms, 8.2.+-.0.1 Angstroms, 6.21.+-.0.05 Angstroms, 6.17.+-.0.05 Angstroms, 5.48.+-.0.05 Angstroms and 4.74.+-.0.05 Angstroms, and without a significant interplanar d-spacing at 13.6-13.3 Angstroms.

Process for selective diisopropylation of naphthyl compounds using shape

The selective isopropylation of a naphthyl compound to diisopropylnaphthalene enhanced in the 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene isomer is obtained in the presence of an acidic crystalline molecular sieve catalyst having twelve membered oxygen rings. The catalyst pore aperture dimension ranges from 5.5 .ANG. to 7.0 .ANG.. The use of these shape selective catalysts results in a diisopropylnaphthalene stream which is enhanced in .beta. isomers and enhanced in the desired 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene isomer. A particularly preferred catalyst is synthetic Mordenite. Specific catalyst modifications are also described to improve selectivity to the desired 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene isomer.

An improved method for synthesis of improved silicoaluminophosphate SAPO-37 is provided. The method comprises (1) preparing a two-phase reaction mixture containing particular components and comprising both a liquid organic phase and a liquid aqueous phase; (2) heating the reaction mixture at a rate of from 5.degree. C. to 200.degree. C. per hour to a temperature of from 80.degree. C. to 200.degree. C.; agitating the reaction mixture in a manner sufficient to intimately admix said liquid organic and aqueous phases with each other; (4) once nucleation of the silicoaluminophosphate occurs, heating the agitated reaction mixture at rate of from 5.degree. C. to 200.degree. C. per hour to a temperature of from 100.degree. C. to 300.degree. C.; (5) maintaining the agitated reaction mixture at a temperature of from 100.degree. C. to 300.degree. C. and a pH of from 2 to 9 until crystals of the desired silicoaluminophosphate are formed; and (6) recovering silicoaluminophosphate material from the reaction mixture.

Synthesis of crystalline SAPO-37

A method for synthesizing a crystalline silicophosphoaluminate is provided. The composition has ion-exchange properties and is readily convertible to catalytically active material. The synthesis method requires an organic phase, and an aqueous phase. The silicon, phosphorus and aluminum components of the silicophosphoaluminate may, optionally, be replaced with other elements in the plus 4, 5 and 3 valence states, respectively.

Silicophosphoaluminates and related crystalline oxides

This invention relates to a novel synthetic crystalline molecular sieve composition which may contain framework +3 valence element, e.g. aluminum, +4 valence element, e.g. silicon, and +5 valence element, e.g. phosphorous, and to use thereof in catalytic conversion of organic compounds. The crystalline composition of this invention exhibits ion-exchange properties and can easily be converted to catalytically active material.

There is provided a method for activating preformed, crystalline aluminum phosphates by combining these aluminum phosphates with an activating metal oxide, such as silica, and water under conditions, such as mulling, sufficient to increase the acid catalytic activity of the material.

Crystalline metallophosphoaluminates are prepared by hydrothermal crystallization utilizing a reaction mixture containing a substantially water-immiscible organic solvent wherein one of the aluminum, phosphorus or oxide sources is soluble in the organic solvent.

Method for the synthesis of metallophosphoaluminates

Silicophosphoaluminates are crystallized from a two-phase reaction mixture comprising sources of silicon oxide, aluminum oxide and phosphorus oxide and a suitable directing agent. The silicophosphoaluminates produced have ion exchange properties and are readily convertible to catalytically active material.

The synthesis method requires two liquid phases comprising a suitable organic or inorganic directing agent and specific reactants, including a specific aluminum phosphate of the ALPO-5 structure.
