Managing foreign RFID tags within a secured area involves use of a first RFID portal system to read tag data from an RFID tag present within a first portal zone. A processing device associated with the first RFID portal system is used to determine whether the RFID tag is entering the secured area. The determination is based on an evaluation of a direction of travel of the RFID tag through the first portal zone. Responsive to determining that the RFID tag is in fact entering the secured area, one or more operations are performed to cause a first tag value corresponding to the tag data to be added into a safe to exit (STE) list.

Foreign RFID tag discrimination and management

Transmitting a radio frequency identification (RFID) interrogation signal into an RFID interrogation zone of an Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) system. Detecting at least one response signal from a first RFID tag of the EAS system responding to the interrogation signal. Capturing, at one or more times in a window of time around the detection, sensor data within a sensor field, the sensor field and the RFID interrogation zone overlapping to form a zone of interest. Characterizing movement of a non-tag object during the window of time based on the captured sensor data. Determining whether the first RFID tag is associated with the characterized non-tag object based on a comparison of the at least one response signal and the characterized movement of the non-tag object.

Decreasing false alarms in RFID exit portals

An RFID portal of an EAS system first interrogates a first zone extending into a controlled area beyond a threshold distance from an interrogating antenna of the portal. The portal defines an exit from the controlled area, the threshold distance being less than a width of the exit. The portal first detects, in response to the first interrogating, a first response of a particular RFID tag. The portal second interrogate, subsequent to the first detecting, in a second zone extending into the controlled area at least to the threshold distance. The portal second detects, in response to the second interrogating, at least one second response of the particular RFID tag indicating a received signal strength of the second interrogating at the particular RFID tag corresponding to a distance from an interrogating antenna of the portal less than the threshold distance. The EAS system alarms in response to the second detecting.

Validating radio frequency identification (RFID) alarm event tags

A radio frequency identification (RFID) system first interrogates, in a first mode, one or more particular target zones of the plurality of target zones including a given target zone. Each particular target zone is interrogated with one of the antennas at a time at a first power for the particular target zone. The RFID system monitors, upon first interrogating, for a trigger condition to occur. In response to the trigger condition not occurring, the RFID system continues the first interrogation in the first mode. In response to the trigger condition occurring, the RFID system second interrogates the given target zone in a second mode at a second power with a plurality of the antennas. The second power for the given target zone is greater in an aggregate across the second interrogating antennas than the first power for the given target zone.

Increased power tag read cycle

Examples described herein generally relate to a system for monitoring tags in a retail environment. The system includes an exit system including one or more sensors that read a tag to obtain exit system measurements associated with a tag detection event. The system includes a memory and a processor configured to execute instructions to receive a selection of a base configuration, the base configuration including weighting values for a plurality of exit system measurements. The processor may classify a tag detection event into a first tag status for the tag detection event based on application of the weighting values to exit system measurements associated with the tag detection event. The processor may determine a second tag status of the tag after the tag detection event. The processor may update the weighting values using a machine-learning algorithm based on at least the first tag status and the second tag status.

Methods and systems for classifying tag status in a retail environment

Systems and methods for determining a physical location of a first Radio Frequency Identification ('RFID') tag. The methods involve: analyzing timestamped tag read information acquired during multiple tag reads to determine a first physical location for the first RFID tag read by the mobile reader while moving through a facility; identifying second RFID tags from a plurality of RFID tags read by the mobile reader that are located in proximity to the first RFID tag and that are coupled to objects similar to an object to which the first RFID tag is coupled; selecting an RFID tag from the second RFID tags that has a first location confidence value associated therewith which is greater than second location confidence values associated with other RFID tags of the second RFID tags; and modifying the first physical location based on a second physical location of the RFID tag selected from the second RFID tags.

Systems and methods for locating tags

The methods comprise: performing operations by an internal circuit of a light provider to control operations of a light element to produce visible light, where the light provider is coupled to a light fixture installed on a physical structure of a facility; and performing operations by the internal circuit to connect with a network, receive a tag identifier associated with an alert event from at least one external device via the network, read tags, and control the light element to modify at least one characteristic of the visible light produced thereby when information read from one of the tags includes the tag identifier.

Systems and methods for determining an inventory using a hybrid lighting and inventory system

Systems and methods for operating a Radio Frequency Identification ('RFID') tag. The methods comprise: monitoring a level of Radio Frequency ('RF') energy being received by the RFID tag; performing operations by a circuit of the RFID tag to compare the level of RF energy in a given frequency band to a first threshold value; and transitioning an operational mode of the RFID tag from a first operational mode in which a receiver is disabled to a second operational mode in which the receiver is enabled, when the level of RF energy exceeds the first threshold value. The RFID tag is able to communicate with a remote tag reader when the RFID tag is in the second operational mode and not when the RFID tag is in the first operational mode.

Systems and methods for operating a tag

Systems and methods for detecting a presence of a person, robot or object in a given area using a hybrid Lighting and Inventory ('LI') system. The methods comprise: maintaining a data store of identifiers for first tags that are readable by an internal circuit of at least one light provider; tracking (a) changes in which of said first tags are read by the at least one light provider's internal circuit during consecutive tag read processes and (b) changes in power levels of tag read signals received at the at least one light provider during the consecutive tag read processes; and using tracked information (a) and (b) to detect the presence of the person, robot or object in the given area.

Systems and methods for using a hybrid lighting and inventory system for motion detection

Systems and methods for finding tags which are unreadable at a particular time. The methods comprise: performing first operations by a first mobile tag reader to read tags at a first time and to determine physical locations of the tags which were read at the first time; and performing second operations by the first mobile tag reader or a second mobile tag reader at a second later time for determining a first geographic area in which a first tag which is unreadable resides. The second operations comprise: analyzing tag read data associated with the first operations to identify second tags which were read along with the first tag on a previous occasion; and selecting the first geographic area to comprise a second geographic area defined by the physical locations of the second tags which were determined during the first operations by the first mobile tag reader.

Systems and methods for locating items within a facility

Systems and methods for operating an Electronic Article Surveillance ('EAS') system. The methods comprise: detecting movement of a plurality of security tags in a facility using Radio Frequency Identification ('RFID'); identifying which security tags of the plurality of security tags are moving towards an exit of the facility or are in a surveillance zone; determining a number of the identified security tags that are coupled to unsold objects; comparing the number to a threshold value; and causing the EAS system to issue an alarm when the number is greater than or equal to the threshold value.
