Process to prepare a lubricant having a dynamic viscosity at &#x2212;35&#xb0; C. of below 5000 cP by performing the following steps: a) contacting a feed containing more than 50 wt % wax in the presence of hydrogen with a catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal component supported on a refractory oxide carrier, and b) contacting the effluent of step (a) with a catalyst composition comprising a noble Group VIII metal, a binder and zeolite crystallites of the MTW type to obtain a product having a lower pour point than the effluent of step (b) and having a viscosity index greater than 120, and (c) adding a pour point depressant additive to the base oil as obtained in step (b).

A process to prepare a base oil starting from a slack wax containing feedstock by (a) contacting the feedstock in the presence of hydrogen with a sulphided hydrodesulphurisation catalyst having nickel and tungsten on an acid amorphous silica-alumina carrier and (b) performing a pour point reducing step on the effluent of step (a) to obtain the base oil.

Process to prepare a lubricating base oil starting from a lubricating base oil which is obtained by first removing part of the aromatic compounds from a petroleum fraction boiling in the lubricating oil range by solvent extraction and subsequently dewaxing the solvent extracted product, wherein the following steps are performed, (a) contacting the lubricating base oil with a suitable sulphided hydrotreating catalyst in a first hydrotreating step; (b) separating the effluent of step (a) into a gaseous fraction and a liquid fraction; (c) contacting the liquid fraction of step (b) with a catalyst comprising a noble metal component supported on an amorphous refractory oxide carrier in the presence of hydrogen in a second hydrotreating step; and (d) recovering the lubricating base oil.

Process to prepare a lubricating base oil

The invention relates to a process for the catalytic dewaxing of a hydrocarbon feed containing waxy molecules by contacting the hydrocarbon feed under catalytic dewaxing conditions with a catalyst composition having metallosilicate crystallites, a binder and a hydrogenation component, wherein the weight ratio of the metallosilicate crystallites and the binder is between 5:95 and 35:65. The invention also relates to a catalyst composition having at least a low acidity refractory oxide binder, which binder is essentially free of aluminum, metallosilicate crystallites and a hydrogenation component, wherein the weight ratio of the metallosilicate crystallites and the binder is between 5:95 and 35:65.
