A system and method for providing security to a wireless network by using a mobile node's location as a parameter for deciding if access is to be given to the node. The system and method employ access points, wireless routers and mobile nodes, each including at least one transceiver adapted to transmit and receive communication signals to and from other wireless routers, mobile nodes and other mobile access points. Each access point is connected to a network management system which allows enhanced network monitoring and control. Each network node includes technology which may determine an absolute node location containing latitude, longitude and altitude of a node, or a relative node location containing the distance and angle between nodes, or a combination of both absolute and relative location data.

System and method for restricting network access to one or more nodes in a wireless communications network

A novel software architecture protocol stack with embedded routing algorithms under the Internet Protocol (IP) routing layer in order to provide high quality distribution of multimedia (voice, video, and data) services. These routing algorithms may include Logical Link Control, Adaptive Transmission Protocol, Neighbor Discovery, Traffic Control, Ad-Hoc Routing, Flow Processing, Intelligent Access and Admission Control. These routing algorithms when implemented further provide for advantages in speed of service, reliability of service, self-healing in case of catastrophic failure of an infrastructure component, load-balancing and geographic reuse.

Embedded routing algorithms under the internet protocol routing layer of a software architecture protocol stack in a mobile Ad-Hoc network

A system and method which enables access points in a wireless ad-hoc communications network to effectively and efficiently determine the approximate location of a mobile node without performing a broadcast flood. The system and method enables a message to be efficiently communicated from an access point of the network, which provides access to a portion of the network or access to another network, to a wireless mobile node in the network. The system and method employ the operations of determining the access point with which the wireless mobile node is affiliated, storing information in a routing table at the affiliated access point pertaining to a routing path from the affiliated access point to the wireless mobile node, and updating the routing path when the wireless mobile node moves by a certain amount. The wireless mobile node can provide this routing path information to the affiliated access point in data packets sent to the affiliated access point. The frequency at which the updating of the routing path information occurs can be based on the degree of mobility of the wireless mobile node. The system and method further perform the operations of providing the message to the affiliated access point, sending the message from the access point to the wireless mobile node by attempting to send the message along the routing path if the routing path is unchanged, and adaptively sending the message along at least one other routing path if the routing path has changed. The frequency of occurrence of the routing path updating is based on a degree of mobility of the wireless mobile node.

System and method for enabling an access point in an ad-hoc wireless network with fixed wireless routers and wide area network (WAN) access points to identify the location of subscriber device

A system and method for determining the mobility of a node in a network, such as a wireless ad-hoc network that requires the node to share its information with other mobile and stationary nodes, such as fixed wireless routers and intelligent access points, so that the rate at which the node shares this information and receives location information, such as Geo-location updates, could be based on the rate of mobility of the node. The node includes a transceiver which is adapted to communicate or attempt to communicate with at least one of the stationary other nodes in the network, and a controller which is adapted to determine a mobility factor of the node based on the communication or attempted communication with the at least one stationary other node. The controller is further adapted to control a rate at which the transceiver sends information pertaining to the node to at least one of the other nodes in the network based on the mobility factor. The mobility factor represents a rate of mobility of the node, and the rate at which the controller controls the transceiver to send the information is proportional to the rate of mobility.

System and method for determining the measure of mobility of a subscriber device in an ad-hoc wireless network with fixed wireless routers and wide area network (WAN) access points

A system and method for detecting communication requirements in a network and placing nodes in various stages of activity where conditions allow. The system and method provides an algorithm to detect changes in node activity levels and alter operations, such as update transmissions and route selections, based upon changes detected. In particular, the algorithm determines activity level at a node at each routing update interval based on factors such as a number of new destinations the node can reach, a number of route modifications that the node can implement, a number of routes from the node whose lengths have changed and a number of destinations the node can no longer reach. The node can then increase or decrease the rate that it exchanges its routing information with neighboring nodes based on an increase or decrease in this activity level.

System and method for using an ad-hoc routing algorithm based on activity detection in an ad-hoc network

A system and method for determining the reliability of at least one communication link between nodes in an ad-hoc communication network. The system and method perform the operations of receiving at a first node data sent by a second node over a link from the second node to the first node, determining a bit error rate (BER) at which the first node received the data, and identifying the link from the second node to the first node as being reliable when a value determined based on at least the BER and, more specifically, an aggregate of the BER and BERs of data received by the first node from the second node over a period of time, meets a desired condition. The data sent by the second node can include routing advertisement data indicating at least one node which is a neighboring node of the second node, or can be any suitable regularly expected message. The data also includes an indication as to the reliability of the link from the first node to the second node based on a measure of at least one previous message, for example, the BER or aggregate BER of at least one routing advertisement, that the second node received from the first node.

System and method for determining physical location of a node in a wireless network during an authentication check of the node

A system and method for providing network data and system upgrades to individual nodes within an ad-hoc network without requiring network-wide information broadcasts. The system and method identifies adjacent devices authorized to share system and upgrade information. Nodes are directed to prepare and transmit requests for upgrade information from adjacent devices, such that upgrade information may be passed, from one node to the next, reaching each node in the network. The node-to-node upgrade propagation thereby replaces traditional network-wide broadcasts of upgrade information.

System and method for self propagating information in ad-hoc peer-to-peer networks

Modules produced and utilized for system simulation are translated by a computer system into software modules compatible with and executable on a target system platform. Initially, software is typically produced to enable a modeling tool to simulate a new design and target system behavior. The simulation software basically includes functions performed by the corresponding target system. The computer system of the present invention translates modules associated with the simulation to software modules compatible with and executable on a target system platform. The translated modules are subsequently compiled and downloaded to the target system. The present invention enables direct transition from simulation to a software implementation.
