Pipe access tool

A coil for creating improved homogeneity in magnetic flux density in a radio frequency resonator for magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy of the human head. The coil has a plurality of conductive members. Each of the conductive members has a linear portion and a tapered portion. The conductive members are arranged to form a first opening having a first diameter and a second opening having a second diameter, with the second diameter being different from the first diameter. The tapered portions of the conductive members provide the coil with a substantially homogeneous pattern of magnetic flux density in at least one of three orthogonal imaging planes of the coil.

Coil structure with tapered conductive members for improved homogeneity in MRI

A method for creating improved homogeneity in magnetic flux density in a radio frequency resonator for magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy of the human head. A tapered birdcage resonator is also provided. The tapered birdcage resonator includes two electrically conductive rings and a plurality of rods or conductor legs. The first electrically conductive ring forms an inferior end of the coil. The plurality of legs extends from the first electrically conductive ring. Each of the plurality of legs has a linear portion and a tapered portion. The second electrically conductive ring forms a superior end of the coil and is connected to the tapered portion of the plurality of legs.

Tapered birdcage resonator for improved homogeneity in MRI

An NMR magnetic coil system (10) is disclosed wherein the isolation between the coils (16, 18) can be adjusted to decrease or virtually eliminate the coupling between quadrature magnetic resonance imaging coils (16, 18). At least one of the coils (16) is separated into parallel segments (20, 22), located in a critically overlapped area. The capacitance of the segments is adjusted by a differential capacitor (76) to vary the ratio of the RF current flowing through the parallel segments. Appropriate adjustment of the capacitance of these paths (20, 22) causes a sharing of the appropriate amount of the out of phase flux to cancel the balance of the shared flux and therefore results in a net mutual inductance of zero.

Orthogonal adjustment of magnetic resonance surface coils

A quadrature coil with a unique arrangement of vertical and horizonal mode coils allows for superior magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy through higher sensitivity and more uniform imaging over the region from the head to the crest of the aortic arch. The coil has vertical-mode conductors at approximately 30.degree., 150.degree., 210.degree.and 330.degree.with respect to a longitudinal axis, and horizontal-mode conductors at 90.degree.and 270.degree.. The horizontal-mode conductors are connected at the far end of the coil at an electrical midpoint of the horizontal-mode conductors, such that a voltage null will exist there when the coil is operated in vertical mode. The vertical and horizontal mode feedpoints are located at a head end of the coil, which is hinged into halves to permit easy access by and to a patient.

Quadrature coil for neurovascular imaging and spectroscopy of the human

A magnetic resonance imaging receiving coil having an improved signal-to-noise ratio comprising two or more separate quadrature volume coils, each intercepting the two quadrature components of the magnetic resonance signal within its own sensitive volume, and the two or more quadrature coils being magnetically isolated from each other by overlap geometry along the axis normal to the plane of the magnetic resonance rotating field. The coils are connected to independent image processing channels of a data acquisition system, the outputs of the processing channels being combined to form an overall image.

Geometrically isolated multiple port volume MRI receiving coil

A quadrature surface probe comprising two individual mirror image coil loops arranged so that the magnetic field vectors of the respective coil loops are substantially perpendicular. An area of overlap between the first and second coil loops is adjusted to minimize the mutual coupling between the individual coils. Also disclosed is the method of manufacturing the quadrature surface probe.
