In accordance with one aspect of the disclosure, an airfoil is disclosed. The airfoil may include a platform and a blade extending from the platform. The blade may have a root proximate the platform and a tip radially outward from the platform. The root may have a greater thickness than a cross-section at about a quarter-span of the blade or greater.

An assembly includes a plurality of seal shoes, a seal base and a plurality of spring elements. The seal shoes are arranged around an axis in an annular array. The seal base circumscribes the annular array of the seal shoes. Each of the spring elements is radially between and connects a respective one of the seal shoes to the seal base. A first of the spring elements includes a first mount, a second mount and a spring beam. The first mount is connected to the first seal shoe. The second mount is connected to the seal base and disposed a circumferential distance away from the first mount. The spring beam extends longitudinally along a non-straight centerline between and connected to the first mount and the second mount.

A fan blade includes a blade body and a shape memory alloy actuator. The blade body has a pressure side disposed opposite a suction side. Each of the pressure side and the suction side extends radially from a root towards a tip and extends axially from a leading edge towards a trailing edge. The blade body defines a passageway that is disposed between the pressure side and the suction side. The shape memory alloy actuator is received within the passageway and is operatively connected to the blade body.

A tandem tip blade includes a main blade body, a front blade and a rear blade. The front blade extends from a main body end. Each of a front blade pressure and a front blade suction side extends between a front blade leading edge and a front blade trailing edge and a front blade tip extending from the front blade pressure side to the front blade suction side. The rear blade extends from the main body end. Each of a rear blade pressure side and a rear blade suction side extends between a rear blade leading edge and a rear blade trailing edge, and a rear blade tip extending from the rear blade pressure side to the rear blade suction side.

A device and methods are provided for deep rolling. In one embodiment, a deep rolling tool for applying compressive stress with rolling elements includes a fork having a base section and a plurality of fork arms, each fork arm extends outwardly from the base section and the fork arms are separated from one another to form an opening. The deep rolling tool may also include rolling elements, wherein each rolling element is mounted at the distal end of a fork arm, and the rolling elements are configured to apply a compressive stress to articles received by the deep rolling tool.

Deep rolling tool for blade fatigue life enhancement

A device and methods are provided for deep rolling. In one embodiment, a deep rolling tool for applying compressive stress with rolling elements includes a flexible fork having a base section and a plurality of fork arms and a plurality of rolling elements, wherein each rolling element is mounted to a fork arm with eccentric roller bushings, wherein each rolling element is mounted at the distal end of a fork arm, and wherein the rolling elements are configured to apply a compressive stress to articles received by the deep rolling tool.

A rotor blade having a wing and beam construction for a tip shroud is disclosed. Various construction details are developed for providing a transition zone that extends from the suction side and pressure side of the airfoil to provide a flow path surface of the shroud. In one detailed embodiment, the transition zone over substantially all of its extent between the leading edge region and the trailing edge region is contoured to extend to the sides of the wings to provide a spanwise taper that extends to the side of the wing.

A rotor blade having a wing and beam construction for a tip shroud is disclosed. Various construction details are developed for providing the shroud with a depression in the shroud and a transition zone that extends from the suction side and pressure side of the airfoil to provide a flow path surface of the shroud. In one detailed embodiment, the tip shroud has a depression generally outwardly of the airfoil and generally following the curve of the pressure and suction sides of the airfoil from the leading edge region to the trailing edge region.

In one detailed embodiment, the transition zone is contoured under the beam differently than a portion under the rear portions of the wings.
