A method comprising forming a linear temporal non-stationary amplitude filter by interacting a high intensity ultrashort laser pump pulse with a photo-excitable material, focusing an ultrashort broadband laser probe pulse over the photo-excited material, acquiring a two-dimensional spectrogram and retrieving amplitudes and phases of both temporal probe pulse and linear non-stationary amplitude filter from the two-dimensional spectrogram.

Linear time-gate method and system for ultrashort pulse characterization

Disclosed is an acoustic resonance spectrometry system for analysing a sample, which includes an optical pump-probe device adapted to generate a pump beam and a probe beam, the pump beam being consisted of a series of ultra-short pump light pulses having a repetition frequency in the spectral domain of the gigahertz, the pump beam being directed towards an optoacoustic transducer to generate a periodic grating of coherent acoustic phonons in the sample, the probe beam being directed towards the sample to form a scattering beam of the probe beam on the grating of phonons, a frequency variation device being adapted to vary the repetition frequency of the pump beam in a spectral range and a photo-detection system configured to measure a scattering signal as a function of the repetition frequency in the spectral range.

Acoustic resonance spectrometry system and method

Disclosed is a system for generating wavelength-tunable, ultra-short light pulses within the visible or infrared light spectrum. The system includes an injection module including a light source and a wavelength-tunable spectral filter. The light source is suitable for generating short light pulses, having a duration measured in nanoseconds, within an emission spectrum having a spectral width of several tens of nanometers to several hundred nanometers. The spectral filter has a spectral width between 250 pm and 3 nm and is suitable for spectrally and temporally filtering the short light pulses such that the injection module generates wavelength-tunable, spectrally filtered, ultra-short light pulses. The system also includes at least one optical amplifier suitable for generating wavelength-tunable, ultra-short, amplified pulses based on the wavelength of the spectral filter.

System and method for generating wavelength-tunable, ultra-short light pulses having high power spectral density

The invention relates to an optical pumping device comprising: a fibre light source emitting controlled radiation having a very high transverse modal quality, with a wavelength shorter than 1000 nm; at least one element consisting of an amplifying material doped with a rare earth dopant; means for introducing a pumping light into said doped amplifying material element; and means for cooling said amplifying material. Said optical pumping device is characterised in that the pumping light is emitted by the fibre light source with an average power of higher than 2W and a modal quality characterised by an M2&#x3c;5 factor.

Optical pumping device

A robust, compact optical pulse train source is described, with the capability of generating sub-picosecond micro-pulse sequences, which can be periodic as well as non-periodic, and at repetition rates tunable over decades of baseline frequencies, from MHz to multi-GHz regimes. The micro-pulses can be precisely controlled and formatted to be in the range of many ps in duration to as short as several fs in duration. The system output can be comprised of a continuous wave train of optical micro-pulses or can be programmed to provide gated bursts of macro-pulses, with each macro-pulse consisting of a specific number of micro-pulses or a single pulse picked from the higher frequency train at a repetition rate lower than the baseline frequency. These pulses could then be amplified in energy anywhere from the nJ to MJ range.

Directly driven source of multi-gigahertz, sub-picosecond optical pulses

An optical source having a fiber emitting controlled single-transverse mode radiation at a wavelength of less than 1030 nm, includes at least one laser diode suitable for emitting a pumping wave; and a section of sheathed amplifying optical fiber having two ends, the amplifying optical fiber comprising a core and a pumping sheath, the fiber being doped with a rare earth dopant; a device for coupling the pumping source in the sheath of the doped fiber, characterized in that the core of the doped fiber includes a cylindrical portion doped with a rare earth element selected among ytterbium, neodymium, and thulium, in order to obtain a refractive index of the core that is higher than the refractive index of the sheath; the excitation wavelength of the laser diode is between 750 nm and 960 nm; the diameter of the sheath is greater than 50 microns, and the surface ratio of the doped core to the pumping sheath is between 8 and 50.

The waveguide () includes an element capable of compensating the predetermined spectral phases generated at least by the compressor (), the second laser pump source () being capable of delivering a second pump light flow () having a power Psuch that the spectral phases generated by the wave guide () are opposed or quasi opposed to the predetermined spectral phases generated by the compressor () in order to generate compressed ultra-short light pulses () at the output of the compressor () with a planar or quasi planar spectral phase.
