A thermal management system includes a server computer and a shell defining an immersion chamber. The shell contacts the server computer along a bottom side and lateral walls of the chamber, and the immersion chamber has an opening on a top side. The shell is connected to the server computer and a portion of the server computer defines at least a portion of the immersion chamber.

Systems and methods for immersion-cooled datacenters

Techniques of deploying fuel cells in a facility are described herein. In one embodiment, a method includes identifying a location of the receptacle at the facility that the fuel cell is connected upon detecting the fuel connector of the second side of the carrier being coupled to a fuel port at a receptacle at the facility. The method can then include generating and storing, in a database, a fuel cell record indicating that the fuel cell is physically connected to the receptacle at the identified location in the facility and instructing a control device in the facility corresponding to the identified location to provide fuel to the fuel cell via the fuel port, the fuel connector, the connection between the first side and the second side of the carrier, and the fuel inlet of the fuel cell.

Fuel cell deployment systems and apparatus

A thermal management system includes a high-pressure (HP) container, a low-pressure (LP) container in fluid communication with the HP container and having a fluid pressure less than the HP container, and a two-phase working fluid partially in the HP container and partially in the LP container. A pump is configured to move the working fluid through the system, and a condenser is configured to condense the vapor phase of the working fluid into the liquid phase.

Systems and methods for adjusting pressure in immersion-cooled datacenters

A thermal management system for cooling electronic devices includes an immersion cooling system, a vapor buffer tank, and a liquid buffer tank. The immersion cooling system includes an immersion tank defining an immersion chamber, a working fluid in the immersion chamber, and a condenser. A liquid portion of the working fluid defines an immersion bath in the immersion chamber and a vapor portion defines a headspace above the immersion bath in the immersion chamber. The condenser condenses the vapor portion of the working fluid to the liquid portion of the working fluid. The vapor buffer tank is in fluid communication with the headspace, and a vapor valve selectively allows fluid communication between the vapor buffer tank and the headspace. The liquid buffer tank is in fluid communication with the immersion chamber, and a liquid valve selectively allows fluid communication between the liquid buffer tank and the immersion chamber.

A thermal management system includes an air handling unit (AHU) configured to receive outside air (OA) from an OA intake, and water from a water source, where the AHU is configured to direct conditioned air toward a cold aisle and the AHU includes a modular adiabatic layer containing an evaporative media, and the modular adiabatic layer includes a plurality of subregions configured to be wetted by the evaporative media independently of one another.

Systems and methods for cooling datacenters

The disclosed technology is generally directed to fuel cells. In one example of the technology, a fuel cell stack that includes an anode and a cathode causes a load to be driven. A control subsystem is measures at least one characteristic associated with the load, and to provide at least one control signal based, at least in part, on the at least one characteristic. An oxidizing agent input subsystem provides an oxidizing agent to the cathode of the fuel cell stack. A fuel input subsystem provides gaseous fuel to the anode of the fuel cell stack. The fuel input subsystem includes a fuel pump that is arranged to pump the gaseous fuel into the fuel input subsystem. A fuel-side high-speed valve adjusts mass flow of the gaseous fuel to the cathode of the fuel cell stack based on at least a first control signal of the at least one control signal.

An immersion cooling system includes an immersion tank that is configured to retain dielectric working fluid and to hold a plurality of computing devices submerged in the dielectric working fluid. The immersion cooling system also includes a condenser that is configured to cause condensation of vaporized working fluid. The immersion cooling system also includes a subcooling heat exchanger that is in fluid communication with a coolant source. The coolant source provides coolant having a coolant temperature that is lower than a boiling point of the dielectric working fluid. The subcooling heat exchanger is positioned so that heat transfer can occur between the dielectric working fluid and the subcooling heat exchanger. The immersion cooling system also includes a control system that controls how much of the coolant flows into the subcooling heat exchanger based at least in part on a temperature of the dielectric working fluid.

Immersion cooling system that enables increased heat flux at heat-generating components of computing devices

Techniques for mitigating loss of vaporized working fluid in a two-phase immersion cooling system may be implemented using one or more supplemental condensers that facilitate condensation of vaporized working fluid when the immersion tank is open, and one or more vapor collection points that are in fluid communication with at least one supplemental condenser. One or more fluid displacement devices may be configured to create suction pressure at the one or more vapor collection points. One or more vents may be positioned in the door. The one or more vents may be configured to permit movement of air from outside the immersion tank into an interior portion of the immersion tank without permitting loss of vaporized working fluid. A directional blowing device may be configured to blow a gaseous substance against a computing device in a downward direction as the computing device is being pulled upward out of the immersion tank.

Mitigating vapor loss in a two-phase immersion cooling system

The discussion relates to cooling computing devices and specifically to managing two-phase cooling. One example can include a two-phase liquid immersion tank containing heat generating components and a liquid phase of a coolant having a boiling point within an operating temperature range of the heat generating components. The example can also include a stratification chamber fluidly coupled to the liquid immersion tank and configured to at least partially separate a gas phase of the coolant from other gases. The example can further include a condenser chamber fluidly coupled to the stratification chamber and configured to receive the gas phase of the coolant and cause the gas phase of the coolant to phase change back into the liquid phase of the coolant.

The disclosed technology is generally directed to vapor-air transition detection for two-phase liquid immersion cooling. In one example of the technology, a first device is cooled via two-phase liquid immersion cooling, such that the first device is submerged in a dielectric liquid in a system, and such that a boiling temperature of the dielectric liquid is a temperature that is suitable for keeping the first device cool. A portion of a first strip that is disposed in the system above the dielectric liquid is cooled. The first strip is composed of a thermo-conductive material. While the portion of the first strip is being cooled, via the first strip, a location of a vapor-air boundary in the system is determined based on a detected temperature along a length of the first strip.

Vapor-air transition detection for two-phase liquid immersion cooling

A liquid-submersible thermal management system includes a cylindrical outer shell and an inner shell positioned in an interior volume of the outer shell. The cylindrical outer shell has a longitudinal axis oriented vertically relative to a direction of gravity, and the inner shell defines an immersion chamber. The liquid-submersible thermal management system a spine positioned inside the immersion chamber and oriented at least partially in a direction of the longitudinal axis with a heat-generating component located in the immersion chamber. A working fluid is positioned in the immersion chamber and at least partially surrounding the heat-generating component. The working fluid receives heat from the heat-generating component.

A thermal management system includes a boiler tank and at least one heat-generating component positioned in the boiler tank. The boiler tank is in fluid communication with a vapor return line and a liquid return line. A condenser is in fluid communication with the vapor return line and the liquid return line. The condenser is positioned between vapor return line and the liquid return line in the fluid communication.
