A combustion-zone chemical sensing system () is disclosed that includes pitch reflective optics () that collimate MIR electromagnetic energy from an input fiber (), a reflector (), catch reflective optics () that focus reflected MIR electromagnetic energy into an output fiber (), and a detector () to detect MIR electromagnetic energy from the output fiber. An optical head () for sensing a combustion zone () is disclosed that includes pitch reflective optics () that collimate MIR electromagnetic energy from an input fiber () towards a reflector (), catch reflective optics () that focus MIR electromagnetic energy, reflected from the reflector, into an output fiber (), and an alignment housing that interfaces with structure adjacent the combustion zone. A method for determining gas concentration within a combustion zone is disclosed that includes collimating MIR electromagnetic energy exiting from an input fiber to traverse a combustion zone and focusing reflected MIR electromagnetic energy from the combustion zone into an output fiber.

Combustion-zone chemical sensing system and associated method

A multi-function sight port door includes a sensor mount attached at an aperture within the sight port door. A sensor is mounted to the sensor mount and configured to monitor the interior of a heater that the multi-function sight port door is mounted to. The multi-function sight port door is also configured to open to allow visual inspection of the interior of the heater while the sensor is mounted thereto. The multi-function sight port may be configured to allow for one or more of X-axis, Y-axis, Z-axis, tilt, roll, and yaw positioning of the sensor as mounted to the sight port door. The sensor may be a temperature sensor, pressure sensor, flame scanner, gas analyzer, optical-based sensor, thermal imager, thermal camera, or laser-based analyzer.

Multi-function sight port and method of installing a multi-function sight port

An optical mode noise averaging device including a multimode optical fiber and means for averaging a modal noise induced signal level variation of light propagating within the multimode optical fiber. The device may average modal noise induced signal level variations by cyclically varying an index of refraction of the multimode optical fiber over a select period of time, scrambling a light distribution within the multimode optical fiber, or both. The index of refraction of the multimode optical fiber may be cyclically varied by cyclically varying the temperature of the multimode optical fiber. Alternatively, the index for refraction may be varied or the light distribution within the multimode optical fiber may be scrambled by cyclically manipulating the multimode optical fiber.
