An example method includes determining a first setting to control an actuator; setting a first record in a record list, the first record including the first setting, a first immediacy of the first setting, and a first priority of the first setting; determining a second setting; setting a second record in the record list, the second record including the second setting, a second immediacy of the second setting, and a second priority of the second setting, the second priority being lower than the first priority; selecting the first record from the record list based on the first priority being higher than the second priority; deleting the second record from the record list based on the second immediacy; and outputting the first setting to control the actuator when a current setting of the actuator is different than the first setting.

Ubiquitous computing methods and apparatus

A method for controlling media presentation during a teleconference. The method generally includes the steps of coupling a buffer operatively to a host device and a participant device, storing media information associated with the teleconference in the buffer and directing playback of the media information from the buffer to the participant device. The host device is associated with a host of the teleconference and the host thereby enables playback of the stored media information to a participant other than the host.

Real-time media control for audio and multimedia conferencing services

A method and an apparatus for performing a distributed control of end-to-end media on packet networks such as Voice over Internet Protocol and Service over Internet Protocol networks are disclosed. The method first receives a request from a first media endpoint device for closing at least one media channel to a second media endpoint device wherein the request contains a descriptor of the first media endpoint device. The method then updates one or more slot states and link states in response to the request and records the current state of each slot for supporting the media channel. The method also records the most recently received descriptor of the media endpoint device as a most recent descriptor for the slot supporting the media channel. The method executes one or more link objects in response to the request for controlling the at least one media channel.

Method and apparatus for distributed compositional control of end-to-end media in IP networks

A communication method for transferring communication data between a plurality of participants is provided. The participants include at least one active participant that generates the communication data and at least one passive participant that does not generate the communication data. The communication method includes receiving, by a primary server, the communication data generated by the active participant and transmitting, by the primary server, the communication data received from the active participant to at least one secondary server that does not receive any communication data from any of the active participant and the at least one passive participant. The secondary server receives the communication data transmitted from the primary server and transmits the received communication data to the passive participant.

A method for providing communication control functionality at a remotely located site using a distributed feature architecture which provides communication features and data records to an Enhanced Network User (ENU). The ENU connects to a Distributed Feature Network (DFN) in order to gain access to communications features contained in the DFN. A system, method and computer readable media are disclosed for presenting a simultaneous multimedia experience to a plurality of computing devices, each at different locations. The method involves coordinating a simultaneous presentation of multimedia content to a plurality of computing devices, receiving a control signal from a computer of one of the plurality of computing devices to control the presentation of multimedia content, and broadcasting the control assigned to each of the plurality of computing devices such that a control event substantially simultaneously occurs in the presentation of a multimedia content at each of the plurality of computing devices. Where commercial breaks and length of presentation differences occur in various time zones or geographically disparate areas, the method may include utilizing synchronization points, adding new content in time gaps at a computing device and/or modifying the length of the presentation to maintain synchronization among the computing devices in a group.

Telephony features for a phone are configured based on the location of a user of the phone. A system receives location data corresponding to a location of the phone. An operational mode is selected from stored operational modes based on the location data. The operational mode of the user phone is set to the selected mode. In one mode, a reply message is provided to the caller that is associated with the location of the phone.

A method and apparatus for providing call parking for a communication network are disclosed. The method first determines a disconnection of a first party's endpoint device, wherein said first party is either a calling party or a called party. The method then determines if said disconnection of said first party's endpoint device is due to hanging up. If said disconnection is not due to hanging up, the method parks a second party wherein said second party is either a calling party or a called party communicating with said first party prior to said disconnection. The method determines if said first party's device is back online and reconnects said first party and second party if said first party's device is back online.

Automatic mute detection

A system for monitoring quality of calls in a network. A server receives information concerning calls which begin or end in a network and at the same time receives measurements of a quality parameter such as bandwidth. This measurement data is provided by a probe, so that the server is able to correlate calls which are placed through the network with the quality of service in the network at that time. When the quality falls below a desired level, the server notifies the customer or the network operator so that appropriate action may be taken.
