Lasers capable of lasing at at least two wavelengths are provided having a lasing medium which is capable of lasing at a first wavelength and at a second wavelength. Also disclosed are laser workstations having two lasers driven by a single electronics drive system in which a single energy storage network is connected to a first laser pump chamber operative to excite a first laser medium and connected to a second laser pump chamber operative to excite a second laser medium.

Multiple wavelength laser workstation

A method and apparatus for treating lesions and tattoos sites. The method includes the steps of irradiating said lesion by a first single pulse Q-Switched laser beam directed onto the site; and again irradiating the lesion by a second single pulse Q-Switched laser beam directed onto the same lesion site within a time interval of less than about 100 &mgr;s.

Method and apparatus for the double output treatment of pigmented lesions and tattoos

A long pulse alexandrite laser hair removal system is disclosed using light pulses of greater than 1 msec and fluences between 10 and 50 J/cm . The use of an alexandrite laser allows good penetration while still achieving an acceptable combination of hemoglobin and melanin absorption. The use an index-matching application on the skin sections to be treated is also described. This substance will be absorbed into the epidermal layer to provide better coupling of the laser light into the skin. Also, and most advantageously, it will reduce reflections at the epidermal-dermal junction, which can lead to the damage of the skin. Also a topical thermal or photochromic indicator is suggested since skin irradiation in the near-infrared generally does not produce any characteristic skin color change as is found when using pulsed dye lasers, for example.

This laser beam detector system may comprise an array of photodetectors usable in conjunction with a laser employed to define an elevation or grade. The detector array is utilized on an elongate device having a plurality of faces, with a plurality of detectors disposed in a consistently spaced arrangement on each of the faces. The detectors of each face have a field of view different from the field of view of the detectors of the other faces, and each detector on each face of the array is disposed at the same height as a corresponding detector on each of the other faces. Importantly, each group of detectors at the same height are electrically interconnected into a co-functioning group. Our novel arrangement is such that a laser beam incident on any detector of a co-functioning group is detected, with the position of the detector upon which the beam impinged being identified, and a readout indicative of that detector then provided. Such readout is conveniently in the form of a plainly visible representative character.
