A vehicle seat for use with a vehicle having a locking mechanism includes a seat bottom mountable on the vehicle so that a position of the seat bottom may be fixed by the locking mechanism, a seat back pivotally attached to the seat bottom and movable between first and second positions, and a release mechanism configured to release the locking mechanism. The release mechanism includes a release lever connectable to the locking mechanism, and a release bracket engageable with the release lever. One of the release lever and the release bracket includes a cam to cause the release lever to release the locking mechanism when the seat back is pivoted from the first position toward the second position. The cam includes a dwell surface that enables the locking mechanism to remain released until the seat back reaches the second position, or a position proximate the second position.

A recliner mechanism for a seat. The recliner mechanism may have a first plate and a cartridge. The first plate may define a through hole that may receive the cartridge. The cartridge may have a pawl spring slot that may receive a pawl spring that may exert a biasing force on a pawl.

A vehicle seat back includes a seat back frame. An impact pad is supported on the seat back frame. The impact pad includes a pad body that is located on a rear side of the seat back frame. The impact pad includes a frame contact surface that matches a contour of the seat back frame. A recliner mechanism for a seat. The recliner mechanism may include a first plate, a second plate, a set of pawls, and a driver. The driver may actuate the set of pawls when the driver rotates about the axis. A dump ramp protrusion may be provided to inhibit movement of the pawls from a refracted position to a locked position.

A head restraint assembly is provided with a first guide member mounted proximate to a vehicle seat back. A second guide member is mounted to the first guide member for translation along the first guide member. A locking mechanism is mounted to the second guide member in cooperation with the first guide member for locking the second guide member relative to the first guide member. The first and second guide members are the only guide members to minimize binding. The locking mechanism includes a torsion spring connected to the first guide member and oriented about the second guide member for locking the second guide member relative to the first guide member. A lever is mounted to the torsion spring for unlocking the torsion spring.

Adjustable head restraint assembly

A head restraint is supported by a vehicle seat assembly having a support structure including a guide. The head restraint is movable between a design position and a stowed position. The head restraint has a support member that is received in the guide, a head restraint body attached to the support member, and a locking mechanism. The support member moves with respect to the guide to translate the body with respect to the support structure. The body rotates with respect to the support member. The locking mechanism locks the body in the first or second position.

A head restraint assembly for a vehicle seat has a head restraint post adapted to be mounted to the vehicle seat. A support member is coupled to the head restraint post. The support member having a plurality of attachment receptacles to mount the head restraint post to one of the plurality of attachment receptacles. A compressible pad member is mounted to the support member. A convex outer surface provides support for a head of an occupant. The support member is mounted to head restraint post at one of the plurality of attachment receptacles positions the compressible pad at a distance from the convex outer surface.

An adjustable head restraint assembly for a vehicle seat is provided with a pair of shells. Each shell is sized to mate with the other and collectively retain a pair of posts therebetween. A locking mechanism is provided on at least one of the frame and the pair of shells for locking the pair of shells and the frame to the pair of posts, and for permitting adjustment of the pair of shells and the frame along the posts.

A latch is moveably mounted on the cross member at a first latch position and at a second latch position. The head restraint is pivotable when the latch is in the second latch position. Another vehicle head restraint assembly is provided with a lateral support rod and a head restraint pivotally mounted thereon. A locking member is pivotally mounted within the head restraint. A latch is mounted on the support rod. An actuator disengages the locking member from the latch. A biasing member pivots the head restraint upon disengagement of the latch and the locking member.

Folding vehicle head restraint assembly

A vehicle seat assembly is provided with a seat frame adapted to be mounted within a vehicle. The seat frame has a tubular upper cross member. A bracket member is mounted to the tubular upper cross member of the seat frame. The bracket member has a pair of fulcrum bushings integrally formed therein. The bracket member is attached to onto the tubular upper cross member by an interference fit. At least one support rod is sized to be received within each of the pair of fulcrum bushings. At least one head restraint post is sized to be received within the at least one support rod. An active head restraint is mounted to the at least one head restraint post.

Head restraint support component for a vehicle seat

Multiple vehicle seats are disclosed with active head restraint systems that receive an input force from an occupant during an impact by a torso support, which consequently actuates a linkage that translates a head restraint upward and forward to the head of the occupant. In one embodiment, the torso support has a translatable connection with the seatback frame and another translatable connection with the linkage. In another embodiment, a torso support is pivotally connected to a pair of links which are each pivotally connected to the frame. In yet another embodiment, the seatback frame includes a structural wire, which provides pivotal connections for two of the links of the linkage.

Active head restraint systems for vehicle seats

An active head restraint system is disclosed with an actuator, a sensor, and a controller. The controller receives an impact signal from a triggering element, receives the position of an occupant's head, actuates the head restraint to move towards the occupant's head, and controls actuation to optimize head restraint movement as the head restraint moves proximate to the occupant's head. In another embodiment, the controller also manipulates head restraint velocity to optimize the velocity toward the occupant's head. Also presented is a method for actuating an active head restraint system for a vehicle seat. The method includes sending an impact signal to a controller, receiving the position of an occupant's head, transmitting the received position of the occupant's head to a controller, actuating the head restraint to move towards the occupant's head, and controlling head restraint actuation to optimize head restraint movement as it moves proximate to the occupant's head.

Active head restraint for a vehicle seat

A vehicle seat is disclosed with a seat back frame with a pair of spaced apart linkages connected to side members of the frame. A horizontally actuatable lumbar mechanism is connected to the pair of linkages for providing lumbar support to the occupant and for receiving an input force for actuating the linkages. A head restraint extends from the seat back frame and is operably connected to the frame and the pair of linkages such that actuation of the linkages actuates the head restraint from a design position to an actuated position. A flexible band lumbar support mechanism is provided. Also, a lumbar mechanism is provided with a pair of upright wires and a series of transverse suspension wires for supplying the back of the occupant and for distributing the input force during an impact.

Active head restraint system with lumbar support for vehicle seats

In one embodiment, a vehicle seat has a frame and is adapted to be mounted within a vehicle. The frame has first and second side members. The frame supports a head restraint that is moveable to an extended position providing support during an impact condition. An active head restraint system is connected to the head restraint for moving the head restraint when actuated. A cable is connected to the active head restraint. An impact member has a first end attached to the first side member, an intermediate portion spanning across a lumbar region and a second end extending to and not directly affixed to one of the first and second side members. The impact member is attached to the cable to translate upon receiving an input force from the occupant in response to the impact condition, displacing the cable and actuating the active head restraint system.
