A system and method hosts entity-specific photo-sharing websites for entity-specific image capture devices. The system and method provides software for the entity-specific image capture devices that causes the image capture devices to transmit entity ID information when the image capture devices transmit images over the Internet. The system and method further provide an online photosharing service capable of hosting the entity-specific photo-sharing websites for each of the entities, such that when the image capture devices connect to photo-sharing service, the photo-sharing service uses the entity ID received from the image capture devices to automatically associate the image with the photo-sharing websites of the identified entity.

A method for device ownership security is disclosed. The method includes storing an ownership record on a mobile device identifying a home network for the mobile device. The method also includes receiving, from the home network, a negative communication based on an indication that the mobile device is at least one of stolen and lost as a second portion of the transaction. The method still further includes ceasing a function of the mobile device in response to the negative acknowledgment.

Automatically configuring a portable electronic device for accessing a site on a public network is disclosed. The method and system include establishing a connection to at least one server for establishing and maintaining website accounts, and sending information uniquely identifying the electronic device to the at least one server. The at least one server sends user account information to the device, including an account ID and password, created based on the electronic device information. The user account information is stored on the device for use the next time the device accesses the website, whereby the user does not have to enter account information in order to establish the ISP connection or the website account before accessing the public network or, if the user account is not completely set up, to establish the user account a next time the device connects to the at least one server.

A method and apparatus for automatically categorizing images in a digital camera is provided. In one aspect, image data is captured by a digital camera. A method is provided for automatically providing remote services for a mobile device having an established relationship with a server of a home network. After the relationship between the mobile device and the server has been set-up and the device detects a local network that is separate and remote from the home network, a connection is automatically established between the mobile device and a local network. The device then automatically establishes an Internet connection with the server through the local network, and transmits to the server information that was stored in the mobile device when the relationship was established. In response to the server recognizing the device through the transmitted information, the server automatically activates at least one service to initiate a transfer data, such as uploading images between the device and the server through the local network.

A method and system for establishing a persistent relationship between a mobile device and a server in a network is provided. Aspects of the invention include detecting the presence of the mobile device, and in response to determining that the device is unrecognized, automatically notifying a network administrator. In response to receiving the administrator's authorization to establish a relationship, a user of the mobile device is requested to authorize the establishment of the relationship. If the user then accepts the offer and authorizes the relationship, the relationship is automatically established between the device and the network, such that no additional configuration is required by the user of the device to communicate over the network once the relationship has been established.

The method displays a representation of each media object, where each media object has a plurality of media types associated therewith. In each one of the plurality of edit screens, a representation of the media object's content and items to be applied to the media object are displayed. Each one of the plurality of the edit screens invokes soft keys to ease use and operation of the capture device and facilitate creation of multimedia presentations on the capture device.

An online service using at least one hardware server on a network provides action information for an image capture device, the action information corresponding to an action that can be performed on images by the online service. A captured image is received uploaded from the image capture device to the online service. A request is received from the image capture device to perform the action for the uploaded image. The request includes an image identifier assigned by the online service.
